"Hmmm," hmmmed Toltiir. "It'll take a little tweaking of relative time to match it up but if I do this..."

"...that ought to match it fairly well," said Toltiir, currently looking like a Tinker Gnome standing in front of a steam powered something or other. It was hard to tell what that was simply because it contained a kaleidoscope, an egg beater, three flashy lights that looked appropriated from some police car, a conveyor belt that led into a nine-dimensional superstructure, and a lava lamp. Among other things.
Grabbing a lawn mower type pull-to-start actuator, the gnome started the gadget with a roar. After that it settled down to a relatively pleasant sound that was sort of like windchimes playing Eine Klein Nachtmusika. Except for the occasional Gregorian Chant, train whistle, snatch of "And The Merry Go Round Broke Down" among other sound effects.
"That's kind of scary," pointed out one of the Beings.
"La de da, dee dee da da," sang the gnome, throwing a box set of the Ah My Goddess OAVs and a set of Sailor Moon videos onto the conveyor belt where they were promptly cycled into the singularity.
"What do you call it?" asked Fleece, having come in during all this and now peering at the happily chiming gadget as if trying to figure out what to set the odds on for its exploding at any particular moment. Which was what she was doing of course.
"I call it 'Fred'," said Toltiir, patting one panel proudly.
"Why 'Fred'?" asked Fleece, trying to figure out the acronym.
"I haven't heard of any multi-phasic dimensionally stabilizing crossover plot devices named 'Fred' - so I thought it suitable," answered the currently gnomish Elder god.
"Oh, so that's what it is," said Fleece as she watched a cuckoo clock unfold and begin chiming fourteen-o-clock. "It's a plot device. I've heard of them but this is the first time I've seen one working."
After adding a statue of a catgirl and some other furry, Toltiir considered the big red switch and pondered aloud. "Now, I've added Sailor Moon and Ah My Goddess elements. What else to do?"
