[Episode 100819] [Episode 100819]Kitsune was pretty drunk, even for her lights, and she had a good reason to be. Having a "girl's night out" with her friend Naru had once again turned into an incredibly frustrating experience.
"Why do all the good-looging guys have ta go *hic* fer Naru?!" she asked rhetorically. "Whaddam I? Shopped Liver, huh?"
She flopped down on her futon and groaned. "S'not afis... asif she even appreshiades it. Always gedding proposishoned by all the guys - and she always durns 'em down!" Kitsune weakly beat her pillow with an angry fist. "She shust don't know how good she's goddit. By God, summone oughta teach her!"
She flopped back down again, lying sprawled bonelessly, on the verge of passing out completely. Then suddenly she started sniggering. "Heh heh heh, yeah! Summone oughta..." She levered herself up with a pained "oof" and crawled over to a storage box in one corner of her room. "Ogay, wher'd I put dat stuff... A-hah!"
Swaying slightly from side to side, she lifted a small bundle out of the box: a roll of parchment, a brush and an inkstone that had been given to her by her grandmother with instructions to their use - and tonight she was just about drunk enough to take her Granny's talk of magic seriously. "Hee hee hee! Wash oud, Naru. Kitsune's gonna 'witch ya. Hee hee..."
With some difficulty she managed to prepare the ink, cut off a piece of parchment and scrawl something on it. Then she folded it into a letter, put it into a bowl and ceremoniously set it on fire at one corner. While the missive burned, crackling loudly and emitting an unusually thick smoke, Kitsune chanted the words that she probably couldn't even remember, while sober.
"Noble ancestors of the Konno family, heed my call. By the power that runs in out shared blood, I, Mitsune Konno, ask you: Let this covenant be sealed upon the ones who stand against us!" She lifted her hands up towards the ceiling, where the smoke drifted in a strangely coherent cloud. "So be it!"
With a sudden flash, the rest of the letter turned to ash in the bowl. The cloud of smoke expanded for a second, filling the room, then shrunk inward rapidly, as if being sucked into an invisible hole. Within seconds there was no sign of the smoke at all. Kitsune remained in her position, with her arms raised, for a few more seconds. Then...
"*hic*" Whump!
Kitsune keeled over sideways, falling to the floor. She started giggling. "Hee hee hee! Oh man. *hic* I gotta be, hee hee *hic*, damn drunk ta do crazy stuff lige thad. *hic* I really oughta sleep it off an' *snoooooore*!"
Falling asleep in the middle of the sentence - and the middle of the floor as well - Kitsune slept like a baby until morning, forgetting all about her frustration and her invocation of the powers that her family was heir to. Those powers, however, did not sleep. They went to work at once, placing the desired curse upon the "enemy of the Konno family".
When the inhabitants of Hinata Sou arose the next morning, one of them by the name of Naru Narusegawa was to face quite an ordeal that day.
