In fact they'd just sat down to dinner...
"Supper's ready, I hope everyone is hungry," said Kasumi as she brought in a big plate.
"Hungry, I'm starving!" Ranma took a deep breath. Ahhh. Sukiyaki. There's... wait a minute. Feeling of impending doom. "Where's Akane?"
"Bringing your dinner," said Kasumi. "She wanted to try her hand at something different."
"...but..." Ranma's eyes went to the sliced thin pieces of beef and vegetables from which the pleasant aroma wafted. "...but..."
"You're not thinking of ducking out on a meal THAT MY POOR LITTLE GIRL FIXED SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU!" roared Mister Tendo.
"Be a man! Eat your fiance's cooking!" seconded Genma predictably.
"...but..." Ranma's eyes fixated on the dish Akane was bringing in. Akane was looking a bit ill just from the fumes rising from the bowl.
Nabiki smirked. Stupid no-account martial artist. If the little extra she'd slipped into the food worked as advertised, Ranma would be damn near in a coma and she could sell him off for an "evening with Ranma" without his escaping. Or noticing for that matter.
Genma shared a smirk with Soun. With the little extras they had put in there while distracting Akane, Ranma would be too ill to move - much less protest as they had the two of them married off before he was capable of saying "No." Then the future of the two houses would be secure and Akane could break his son of that foolish independence.
Kasumi wondered if she had changed the batteries in the smoke detectors.
There was a knocking at the door. To some it was a distraction, to one it was a ray of hope.
"I'll get it!" Ranma declared as he leapt up and out of the grasp of two attempted parental tackles. With any luck it would be a challenger or a new fiancee or something that would get him OUT OF HERE.
In fact it was:
"Who are you?" Ranma asked, not recognizing anyone.
