Ranma's Furry Friend: Play Area [Episode 101593]

by Kender

"Let's see, so the intervention occurs," mused Artemis, "here. When Genma was looking for a pit to put the cats in and chose this temple where a young boy and girl were playing."

Bastet raised a brow. "Oh, so he'll be getting involved when he was a child..."

"Looks like it. And this should prove interesting. Especially as our host here has an obvious reason for this."

"Who me?" Toltiir commented with a shrug, "I didn't do anything, except put on the show..."

Even though he knew that training in the better, and stronger, techniques meant that his son would have to work hard, Genma wished that it also didn't mean that he had to work harder as well. If he had his way, the boy would train all he could while his father would get to lounge around... er, rest as his age and experience dictated. Instead, he had to suffer through preparing each and every training session, and so had to work for something that he was not going to benefit from directly.

"I hope the boy understands the lengths I've had to go through," the portly martial artist muttered under his breath, "And I hope that this is the last place I have to check..."

When he had found the training manual, he had thought that this would be an easy task. Merely find a pit, or a place to make one. Get some starved cats, put them in, and then drop his son in. Unfortunately, there weren't many places that would have open pits of the right size, or be made of the right materials to dig through. And he had to make sure that those nosy officials didn't come around again, since they seemed incapable of understanding the hardships that a man had to go through to become a martial artist.

Sighing heavily, he peered around, ignoring the laughter of children nearby as inconsequential. The place seemed good enough, as it was isolated and little travelled. Plus the earth was soft, and as he looked around, there didn't seem to be any place close that would be able to hear the training.

And when he found his foot going into the ground, his first reaction was to curse. But his second was happiness, as it looked like he'd found his spot. It seemed that the soil was loose enough to be easy for someone like him to dig through if neccessary.

Which meant that once he had his pit, then he'd only have to add some cats and his boy for success to happen.

It gave him the burst of energy he'd needed, and he happily set to work.

The little boy and girl peered around the tree and wondered where the sound of cats were coming from. They'd been playing there for so long that they'd known what the sounds of the place had been, and these had been new. So that had interested both of them, and they had given up playing 'hide and seek' to find out what was happening.

"I don't like this..," he murmured.

She looked at him with a small frown. "Why is that? We're only going to see some kitties..."

"Yeah, but we don't know why they're here. It sounds bad."

"Then we have to help them, right?"

"Well.., yeah. But we're just kids..."

Her face brightened into a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. We'll be okay."

"Oh... Okay..."

"Now let's see... OH MY!"

"What is he doing with those cats?" he asked, wide eyed at the sight of a fat man in a gi couching down near some yowling felines.

"He's... He's putting them into that hole in the ground!"

"He looks real mean..."

"But we have to help the poor things!"

"I know, but I meant that we've gotta be real careful. He's like those kind of people that my parents warned me about."

"What kind are those?" she asked innocently, "Everyone deserves a chance."

"I guess so, but my parents told me to keep away from strange grown ups, and he looks plenty strange."

Chewing her bottom lip nervously, she looked across the grass at the crouching figure. "We have to do something..."

He nodded back at her, and the two of them:
