The pigtailed boy had never thought that she had ever felt this way about him. He'd been in the blank about this for so long and she ad kept him that way. but she still felt that way and the only place that she had been able to express it was through her diary. What had started as an attempt to just be a nice guy had turned into something more.

He had to confront her, it was a simple as that. At least he had to return the diary, but he still needed to talk to her about what she had written. And there was no time like the present to do so.
