The surprise in this case came from the fact that it looked like Ryouga could have been quite good at piloting. Shooting would have been a seperate matter, since he was freaking out too much to care. Even his natural propensity for finding ways of mangling directions were taking a back seat to his complete and utter confusion as his situation.
One had to actually know how to pilot a craft to know how to get it lost after all.
But oddly enough, his jerks and spins were resulting in a rather bizarre show of luck, as he managed to pull himself out of the way each time that a shot was about to hit his fighter.
Which left Pluto wondering how the boy could get the fighter flying in a path that looked both like a hawk swooping around the stars, and a butterfly on LSD.
Ranma pulled and twisted the controls of his fighter and found himself appreciating the work that had been put into her. The craft was very responsive and he'd already pulled out of more than one near miss by a much larger margin than he'd thought he would. It bordered on being to responsive though, and he knew that he should have taken some time to get used to the controls. Unfortunately though, he wasn't going to get the enemy to come back at a more convient time, and so he'd had to put the adaptability he'd learned into this.
Still, his Valkyrie was still a sweet craft. Her loss of armor meant that she wouldn't be able to take more punishement, but with her speed and agility, he was certain to be able to dodge more than his share of attacks. He was growing to definately like this, and he was glad for his training. Both excitement and fear were growing within him.
It wasn't what he'd expected when he'd been picked for training when he was so young, but he was definately finding himself in his element. He doubted that other guy had been, though he wasn't quite sure who that guy was. He looked familiar, and had probably been in that last school he'd attended before flight school. Not that it really mattered, as he knew that someone who had taken the time to head into a launch bay to issue a challenge was not about to give up that easily.
Shaking himself free of the memories, he put himself back into a frame of mind suitable for his battle while:
