It was a different universe, the paradox storm having linked up their original universe with several others by the time it had run through its course.
7,500,000,000 BC - 1,000,000,000 BC had been the time of the Forerunners. They had expanded out into space and seeded DNA throughout the lonely universe, building the occasional outpost as they went. Finally they had vanished, leaving behind fragments of their technology from various periods on old and dead worlds as their only monuments.
5,000,000 BC - 3,375,000 BC had seen the first Shadow War. The Shadow were also known by a number of other names. Mazoku, devils, demons, yoma. They had clashed with a number of races, including the Moonari whose soldiers were called Sailors due to some pre-existing warrior caste. Other ancient species had died during the battle, been driven nearly to extinction, or had chosen sides and fought as best they could. Setsuna at least was able to recognize this battle except for the allies, though the Sailor Wars nature had changed somewhat.
Turning her gaze forward, Setsuna observed the differences in those she had come to know. It was still the early 1990s, but it was a time when Earth had been colonizing in space for nearly three hundred years.
Ranma Saotome was still a martial artist. Still a bit of a rogue. Still prone to shooting off his mouth. Yet this was a tougher, more independent, and deeper individual than the one who had gone to Nerima. His ship, the Wild Stallion had suffered his inexpert care though he had learned as he went along. His parents had taken him along and trained him in both martial arts and survival in the greater universe until their apparent death on the moon of Thryth. From the age of twelve he'd had to survive on his own. Now at age sixteen, he was both loner and lonely. A jack of all trades, master of the fighting arts still practiced on a half dozen worlds, and a damn good shot with his "caster" style gun. When he could afford ammunition, that is.
Next on Setsuna's list were the various Senshi, reborn into this new timeline without a trace of their Senshi identities for the most part.
Ami Mizuno was a medical intern who had been serving aboard the Ahkunaten. A genius who had graduated high school at the age of ten, at sixteen she was already through medical school. The scientific expedition would have allowed her a wide variety of experiences under the tutelage of her superior officer.
Minako Aino was a young hotshot pilot. Clumsy on the ground and in social situations, she was a born snubfighter pilot and could handle an exosuit more easily than walking around without. As she had spent most of her life on a family-owned mining asteroid, she had been anxious to take on an opportunity to see more of the universe.
Makoto Kino was a military cadet, the child of Space Marines, and a soldier who struggled to balance her own feminine drives and nature with her upbringing as a warrior.
Usagi Tsukino il Rafael dul Lunari was a princess. Not a very high ranking princess perhaps, but a princess nonetheless. She remained the exceptionally friendly but somewhat ditzy girl that Setsuna remembered, however part of this was her upbringing and station. She had joined the Ahkunaten as a large chunk of the financing had been from her family and now she was afraid (especially of big sister Luna) of how the family would handle her losing the ship and crew. Never mind that it hadn't been her fault in the eyes of others, this was her family. They might hold her responsible. Luna certainly would.
Finally there was Hotaru. A bioroid experiment developed as Usagi's bodyguard and personal secretary. She had developed into a nice girl who had the princess' interests ahead of her own, though Usagi seemed determined to build Hotaru a real life.
As the Wild Stallion jetted away from the Ahkunaten and kept its weapons trained on the derelict, the new passengers (the conscious ones at least) looked back across the gulf at their former home. Therefore they saw:
