The Hunter Within: Arrival of the Vault [Episode 102245]

by Yasanagi

At around the same time when Setsuna left the Time Gates to deal with the Xenomorph hybrid, an amateur astronomer saw a strange object in his telescope sailing through the atmosphere and crash upon the earth’s surface. After seeing such an odd object, he concluded that he had been hallucinating from the amount of sake he drank earlier and made a promise to reduce the amount of sake he drank by half.

In reality, he had not been hallucinating. The object which had crashed on to the earth is a large vault the size of a small meteor. The vault had been made entirely out of a metal which had not been seen since the Silver Millennium. And on the vault was a family crest, a black shield with a white dragon inside, that anyone from the Silver Millennium would recognize.

The crest belonged to the Tasuke family, which specialized in making magical artifacts just as powerful or even more powerful than the ones made by the legendary Shazal Rugandy.

Before this goes further, I will take a moment to explain who Shazal Rugandy is. Four hundred years ago in the Slayers world, there lived a man named Shazal Rugandy who created magical relics. He was considered a legendary figure since his artifacts possessed unique and powerful magic.

Lina Inverse and Naga, the White Serpent had come across one of Shazal Rugandy’s works before when they took on a job to stop a magician named Lagan from obtaining the Shadow Reflector. The Shadow Reflector had the uncanny ability to create clones of anyone it reflects. The shadows would have the same powers and experiences as the originals but would be the complete opposite of the original. For example, if the originals viewed someone as an enemy, the shadows would think of them as an ally.

Lagan was able to get the artifact and use it on Lina and Naga but it didn’t turn out exactly as he thought. In the end, Lina and Naga destroyed the Shadow Reflector however their shadows still roam the planet, preaching their humanitarian views much to Lina and Naga’s chagrin.

Now that everyone has been caught up, we can examine the Tasuke family. Their talents were well known and they were able to create a good source of income by selling some of their works to the many members of Queen Serenity’s court. They took many precautions to secure themselves against thieves. That’s why they purchased the vault to hold their more powerful artifacts. The vault had been special made out of a metal that is very hard to destroy and for additional security, a special locking mechanism had been made and an enchantment had been placed on the vault to strengthen it further.

The question is how did the vault come to Earth? To put it simply, the Tasuke family residence was on Residential Island 2501. Even though they did not survive when Lady Jupiter gave the order, the vault did and it eventually wormed its way out to open space after the Silver Millennium died out from the Dark Kingdom's attack. After drifting in space for centuries, the Earth’s gravitational force pulled it in.

Now the vault is here on Earth and the one who successfully opens it would possess artifacts with near unlimited magical power...
