Tatewaki Kuno himself had not shown any interest in the girl - why would he? Oh, she was comely enough, but she had none of the passion or fire that he sought in a girl. No interest = no challenge = no morning horde.
Though some had expressed interest in her for her exoticness, she had just struck too many as being "off" to the point where only very very weird individuals might obsess with her.
Such as Hikaru Gosunkugi, except that he'd been sure for the first part of the year that she was a zombie or a vampire. Rei had gotten tired of the voodoo wannabe thrusting crosses in her face, sprinkling water or salt on her, and otherwise being a nuisance.
When it had come out that Rei Tendo had been engaged to Ranma Saotome, the reaction had been different. Instead of outrage at someone being engaged to Akane, there was sympathy for the poor schmuck stuck with Rei.
Instead of Hiroshi or Daisuke making lewd comments about Ranma doing his fiancee, the pervert pair had instead concluded that poor old Ranma was gonna freeze his schwartz off in trying to fulfill his duties. Better him than them, that was their conclusion.
Nobody had expected the ice queen to thaw. Over the past week, speculation was running rampant and Nabiki had had to develop a network of lieutenants just to give her a chance to rest her voice in replying to the various gossip requests.
On observing that the ice queen was going over lingerie catalogs, speculating about seduction techniques, using light makeup, and once was heard moving about with a faint chiming noise because "it was stuck" - there were an entirely different set of reactions going on at Furinkan.
Many of the girls were now looking quite speculatively at Ranma. Why couldn't their boyfriends have whatever he had? Maybe they should rescue the poor boy from the ice maiden?
Many of the guys were now looking quite speculatively and in genuine awe at Ranma. Superhuman martial arts skill was one thing. Getting the "Vulcan wannabe" or "ice princess" to (apparently) crave his mambo?! He was definitely The Man! How had he done it? If so, could they learn such a technique?
Many of the teachers shook their heads and despaired over the exam ace who was apparently devolving into a hormone-addled girl. Maybe once she got it out of her system she could get back to her studies? Well, they could hope.
The rumor mill rumbled to life as Nabiki learned of the morning events and began spreading the tale.
The guys grew even more speculative. Saotome was so studly he had Rei out trying to procure him a harem?! What WAS his secret?!
The girls grew even more speculative. What DID Saotome have going on that Rei apparently felt she needed "help" in this regard?
