My name is Minako.
"That's two fully active," said the flight operative from the base. "Sixteen failures but at least we've got two units active."
"What's that mean?"
"You don't know?" asked Ranma, a little put off that his vehicle was ignorant of something basic even if he didn't know himself.
"It means that Ranma Saotome is now registered as your pilot. Only people who are fully synched with their Senshitech Fighter can awaken the persona. Other than that - remember this technology is still mainly experimental."
Who else is awake?
"She's currently asleep, the pilot is off shift. She gives her name as Usagi."
"'Usagi' is the name of a giant robot?" asked Ranma in disbelief. That was like naming some killer martial arts manuever 'Bambi Fist' or something.
"The pilot is Mamoru Chiba of Kawasaki," said the woman flight controller. "Please drop altitude by 1000 feet and adjust course NNE."
"Uhm," said Ranma.
I've got it.
Minako flew and marvelled at the sense of power flowing through her.
She was currently at 11,500 feet altitude and proceeding in a North-Northeast direction at 90 miles per hour. Which wasn't terribly fast for an airplane, but really darn quick for herself. She wasn't sure what went on but she vaguely remembered dying. What came before that was a blur that she couldn't clearly get. There was something about fighting some great evil, and it was cold.
Now a glance at her hands revealed that it was as if she were wearing finely jointed armor except that the joints themselves were clearly mechanical.
She brought up a display of systems and paused over the weapons available. She had a vibro-sword? She knew what a laser was, of course. How very interesting.
The presence of the pilot within her was both strange and oddly comforting. It felt invigorating somehow as well.
