“Yes Ranma, you and Lexus have to go to Japan,” Jeremy told his eldest in a deadpan tone. He was actually a little surprised that Ranma had waited this long to bring it up. Usually when they had to take Ranma someplace when he was younger Asrial usually had to end up dragging him every inch of the way.
“No I already agreed I’d do this,” Ranma replied him. Although sometimes Ranma was a little annoyed at just how much of that honor code stuff his grandmother had hammered into him. “It’s just… if we’ve got technology light-years ahead of most Earth’s stuff except for the occasional mad scientist and the reversed engineered stuff.”
“Yeah so?” Jeremy asked.
“So how come were taking some old jet that’ll take hours when even an old Salusian shuttle craft could get there in minutes?” Ranma asked while pointing at said spacecraft near the back of the airport. “I mean, it’s not like as soon as me and Lexus leave there’s going to be this huge crises or something, right?”
“Why must you jinx us?” Kassy asked her brother in a deadpan tone.
“It’ll save on fuel since the pilot has to go back to Japan anyway,” Asrial said.
“Okay,” Lexus cut in. “But how come you’re not sending Kassy? She’s the one who thinks up all those pranks! I’m just a helpless pawn in her sick and twisted games!”
“Traitor,” Kassy mumbled.
“That’s exactly the point Lexus,” Asrial told her son. “You need to learn to stand up for yourself whenever she tries to get you to do something like that! Besides, just how many of those pranks were really your idea huh? As I recall Kassy was away that weekend that I used the transformation chamber to change back into my Salusian form and ended up with pink and green fur instead of red and white.”
“Hehehe… oh yeah,” Lexus said before backing down.
“And you Ranma,” Asrial said as she pointed t her eldest.
“Hey, hey, hey,” Ranma replied before putting his hands up in front of himself defensively. “I grew out of that kind of stuff years ago.”
“Maybe so, but who is it that you think taught them to be like that in the first place?” Asrial demanded while her son sweated nervously beneath her gaze. “I expect you to be the most responsible one but almost every single time I count on you do something you immediately go for the nearest exit when you think I’m not looking or wait till the very last second to do it.”
“Is that so bad?” Ranma asked.
“YES! You need to learn responsibility,” Asrial shouted while the pointed at Ranma. “When I was your age I was twice as responsible as you. Which you should be thanking me for since you were my main responsibility at the time.”
Unable to find a comeback to that one, Ranma just picked up his bags and headed towards the private jet that just landed a few seconds ago and the guy that was coming out. Then after a few quick goodbyes they were on the RNC jet, and sitting across from a distant family member.
“Aunt Ichi? What’re you doing here?” Ranma asked while they waited for the men down below to finish refueling. “Don’t you have a company to run… or something?”
“Eh, what’s the point of having a multi-billion dollar corporation if you can’t take a few hours off every now and then?” she asked with a shrug. “Besides, it’s nearly the middle of the night in Japan right now, no it’s not like I have a big workload.”
“So, why are you here then?” Lexus asked.
“What? I need an excuse to visit with my two favorite half-alien nephews,” Ichi replied with a smile before noticing something wrong about Ranma. "And Ranma, what happened to your other set of ears?"
“We’re your only half-Salusian nephews,” both of the Feeple brothers replied at the same time with deadpan expressions. "And Ranma keeps them folded down so they blend in with his hair. Not like everyone in town doesn't know what we are anyway."
“Ah I see,” Ichi said before reaching over to grab a briefcase standing next to her char. As the plane lifted off into the sky she opened it up to take out to folders. When they finally reached their normal cruising height she finally handed them to the two boys. “I think everything you’ll need to know is in there, and we’ve already handled the transfers to your new schools thanks to your mom and dad faxing over your records, and don’t worry about supplies, everything is ready for you at the guest house back in the compound.”
“Wait, guest house?” Lexus asked before looking over to his brother. “Okay, my translator nanites arn’t malfunctioning right? She did say house, right?”
“She was speaking in English Lex,” Ranma deadpanned.
“Translator nanites?” Ichi asked in confusion.
“You know, it’s the same kind of stuff Mom used when she first came here so she could speak English,” Ranma explained. “You remember those pills she used to take for awhile right?”
“Except these are the upgraded versions,” Lexus continued. “They feed on our bodies own bio-electric field for power instead of running out and needing to be replaced every twenty four hours.”
“But don’t worry about me if they go down, I can speak and read Japanese pretty well,” Ranma said. “Grandma kind of made it a requirement in my training.”
Hearing that Ichi let out a little laugh before covering her mouth until she stopped herself. “Oh yes that’s right, you’re the new ninja in the family,” she mused. “Well, not surprising I guess, considering the way you always used to follow your uncle Ricky around when you were younger. Is he still trapped in that other dimension? Kara, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, although I think he just settled down there, he’s not actually trapped,” Ranma told her. “A few years ago Heidi went after him, but I don’t know much else. We haven’t really heard from him recently.”
“I thought you said he was in another dimension,” Ichi said.
“Yeah but we still get mail from him every month or so,” Lexus answered. “The fairy that delivers it just decided to take a few weeks off is all, I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about.”
For a moment Ichi was going to ask what Alex meant by the fairy comment, then she just decided to drop it. Just keep reminding yourself Ichi, they’re from Quagmire, she thought before deciding to get some sleep during the flight home.
