Meteor: Lost Rescuer [Episode 103571]

by Kender

In the normal course of events, Ryouga would have had a definate goal of where he wanted to go. He would probably eventually reach there, but not until he had gone through some totally impossible course that only he could manage. Asking for directions wouldn't help since he'd always misinterpert them and maps were useless for much the same reason. All in all, he was lucky to get anywhere, and he'd get stuck going to places that few, if any, had been before.

This was not a normal situation in the slightest and rather than trying to ignore everything else in the attempt of getting to one set destination, he went wherever he saw a problem.

After all, people were in danger, and hurting, and they needed help.

Mitsuki tried to drag her daughter away from the house, but found that she had to work to make it possible. The girl was not to be denied, and in the situation, was scared out ofher mind. As such she wanted to make sure that everyone was safe, but fate was not being nice about it.

"I want my puppy!" the child screamed, "We can't leave her!"

"We can't do anything about it sweetheart," her father told her in a voice that said that he found the job distasteful. "He's stuck over there, and we can't get to him."

"But he's right there!"

The mother looked and saw the poor dog whimpering where he was surrounded by fire and rubble, and couldn't see anyway to help him, even though she wanted to help him as desperately as her child did.

"Maybe I can help," a new voice commented, and they turned to see a young man wearing a bandana. Their newcomer didn't say much, and simply moved over to the dog and knocked over a part of the property wall. The dog yelped in fright, but was suddenly surrounded only by fallen materials. Walking over to the pet, the boy picked him up and carried him over to his owner.

"Thank you!" the little girl declared as she grabbed up her puppy in a fierce hug.

"You're welcome."

Both parents looked down at their child and smiled in relief before turning up to look at the boy who'd helped them.

Only he wasn't there any more.

Ryoga wondered when they had started changing house styles before shaking himself free of the thought. There were more important things to do, and he knew that someone would have to do it. His nature would not allow himself to walk away from what he was seeing.

Or hearing, as he found himself noticing the sound of a faint voice calling out from nearby. But he couldn't see anyone, even as he followed it. Yet he wasn't about to give up, and he continued onward until he found where it was coming from.

It wasn't until he reached the source that he realised what had happened. Standing at the pile of rubble that had once been a house, he moved carefully over it until he found here the sound was the loudest. It had faded to the level of a bare whisper, but that only made him move faster.

Pulling up hunks of what had once been walls and cielings, he dug through them until he reached the bottom.

And laying there was a girl, perhaps a little older than he was laying there in the ruins of what had been a pretty nice outfit. She was definately attractive, but the odd way that her arm settled, along with all the cuts and bruises she had put her in a sorry state. Reaching down, he pulled her out and carried her over to a curb, making certain that he kept his line of sight on it.

She fairly clung to him, and was very reluctant to let her grip go, but barely managed to do so. Her eyes tracked his movements though, and seemed to drink up the sight of him as he tended to her wounds.

But he didn't seem to notice, and put a hand on her shoulder as he said, "You'll be okay."

Her throat choked by emotion, she nodded in response and glanced back at the spot where she had lain.

When she looked back, her rescuer was gone along with any proof that he was there, save for what he had done to help her.

"Don't you die on me!"

Perking up his head, Ryoga walked down the alleyway he'd been looking for the exit of, and frowned as he saw a young woman kneeling by the fallen shape of a man of about the same age who didn't look well off.

"You got the both of us out of there," she sobbed, "And if you live, I promise not to treat you so bad. I'm not sure why I was so mean, but I'll change. Just don't die on me! Please!"

Crouching on the other side of the man, the Lost Boy glanced at the surprised look on the woman's face, and shrugged. Rather than answering her, he began to go over the man's injuries. It was obvious that he had a lot of broken bones, and a deep wound to one shoulder, but luckily, it didn't seem that there was anything worse with him. However his wound was bleeding heavily, and if it wasn't stopped, he would die.

So, pulling off several bandanas, Ryoga made a makeshift bandage, and placed it against the wound. Then using some more, he created some splints with some broken wood he found nearby.

"He should be okay with this, but you need to get him medical care, understand?"

"Yes!" she cried in relief, and put her head to the prone man's chest as she let her tears fall onto him.

Ryouga merely gave a sad smile and left her to it, while:
