Their mom was... shudder! Best not to think about that.
"This is where Bail said to look for him." Ranma agreed that it didn't look like much. The city of Mos Eisely was about as festering a hive of scum and villainy as he'd ever seen. "But he wouldn't be in a city - too public. He knows better than that. Any chance encounter could be deadly. We'll have to search out in the wastes, the most dangerous areas possible. The places no sane person could go. He'll have found a way to hide without danger, just use the threats he avoids to act as his own personal defense screen."
"So, what's dangerous out here?" Ranko was staring disapprovingly at the dunes.
"Couple Hutt crimes lords, but those are friendly to our enemies and only as dangerous to us as regular Imperials. So that's not a good bet."
"There was that time dad joined an Imperial Academy..." Ranko ventured.
"Yah, but they have his data prints, now. So that couldn't work again. Besides, you know how close mom was to him at the time."
"True."
"Well, I've talked with the locals. The worst of the local wildlife is out beyond the Dune Sea, in the Jundland Wastes. Then there's a Pit of Carkoon where there's a big Sarlacc, maybe even the biggest known. And finally the local natives are about as dangerous as low tech rifles let them be. They're alternatively called Sandpeople, or Tusken Raiders, because first contact was when they attacked a place called Fort Tusken. Nobody goes out there, so I can assume it's still dangerous."
Ranko's face scrunched up into a frown. "I suppose getting eaten by a sarlacc could be too much even for dad trying to avoid mom."
"Yah, suppose she followed him in. How'd he get away from her then?"
"True."
"So what will we check first?" Ranko bounced brightly.
