Only he had found out that one of those girls was the reincarnation of the Princess whom his own previous incarnation had loved.
Upon finding this out, it had been like finding a part of him that he'd needed.
Except that he had been taking by their enemies to be brainwashed in order to attack her.
But she had managed to save him.
Yet she hadn't managed to save herself.
And now he had to deal with what was left of her everyday. He had been chosen back when he had shown how useful he could be in the fights with the Doom Tree, and had been one of the first picks to be a pilot. Due to what seemed like fate, he had been chosen to be the pilot of the unit based on his beloved, and he had connected with her easily enough. Instead of a simple cold machine, he'd gotten a lot of the vitality and cheerfulness that he remembered.
It was a mixture of torture and joy that he went in to pilot. This was his chance to be with his beloved, but he couldn't stay with her, or touch her in the ways that he wanted to. There didn't even seem to be a rememberance of the past, and he had to hold his tounge hard so that he didn't break down.
Yet when he was alone, he could sit and ponder his situation, as he was doing at the moment in the dark of his living room. His original apartment might have been destroyed, but he'd gotten another one, and even if it was smaller, he could still see himself doing exactly the same thing in either. He sat there, with a bottle of scotch that he'd gotten from one of the engineers, though he hadn't touched it yet. That would have possibly taken the edge of and at the moment, he needed to wallow in his pain.
Fate, or Time, however, had other ideas, and he was interrupted by the sound of footfalls on his floor.
"Who is it?" he asked with a scowl.
A woman wearing a variation on a familiar outfit came out of the darkness with a staff shaped like a key and stood in front of him. "Hello Mamoru Chiba."
"What is this?! Some sort of joke? Who put you up to this?"
"No one. I am Sailor Pluto, the Senshi of Time."
"Yeah, right," he growled. "How do I know that you are not some fake?"
"You're the reincarnation of Prince Endymion, and are the beloved of Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom. Who also happened to be Usagi Tsukino, schoolgirl, sister of Shingo, and daughter of Ikkuko and..."
"How do you know all that?!"
"I told you, I am the Senshi of Time," she told him, "And I know everything about you."
"Really..?"
"And I know that this was not supposed to happen."
"What? Our meeting?" he asked.
"That too. I was after all, not supposed to meet you under these circumstances. Of course, this whole situation, including the... end of the Senshi you knew was never supposed to have happened."
"WHAT?!"
"What should have happened was that the Princess was to use her power to revive all the Senshi with her, and you, and send you all back to your normal lives, though without any memories of being Senshi."
"So, what went wrong? Why isn't she with me then?"
"Because there was a paradox storm, a chaotic disruption of Time itself, at another point in the timeline, and it impacted on what happened at the final fight with Beryl," she informed him grimly.
"You mean to tell me that everything that happened since then shouldn't have happend?"
"Yes?"
"Can't you fix it?"
Sailor Pluto gave him an even look and said,:
