Ranma let out a short hiss of disgust. "Are you sure?"
"Completely. These girls have heartbeats, internal organs, and nervous systems. And unless the machines have been taking up cloning, these are the real deal. Other than what seems to be an added ability to interface with computers, they're pretty normal."
"Damn..."
"I know the feeling."
With his hands getting a white knuckled grip around the steering wheel, the pigtailed boy knew that the Professor wasn't just saying what he thought he wanted to hear. He definately did, and shared the sentiment. It wasn't that such units would be able to get past the dogs and security, nor was it the fact that it gave the enemy an advantage. What it was happened to be that it meant that human beings had been turned into nothing more than disposable units for the enemy, which meant that they would be losing on two fronts, both in the loss of the life, and in the fact that they'd have to fight them. And he didn't even want to think about what would happen if a friend got caught and had this done to them.
"This is not a good thing," Ranma growled, "How's it going?"
"Connecting is surprisingly easy. Apparently they were... changed so that they can be programmed like any other... 'unit'," Natsume said with a bit of disgust in his voice, "Once their minds were deleted, the programming set up a machine mind that has the whole thing. Missions, skill downloads... Hell, they even treat their own bodies as 'parts'."
"Just great. Any idea why they chose this group?"
"None. For all we know, they could have been the most healthy or simply the easiest ones to do. Or they could have found something special about them."
"What used to be..," the younger man said. "Can you reverse what was done?"
"Not at the moment. All I can do is to get it so that they won't want to kill us."
"I didn't mean that! I mean in general."
