Webs: Not in the Plan [Episode 107849]

by Thrythlind

"Good afternoon," Kodachi Kuno said to the assembled reporters, holding herself firm in the face of all the flashes. "I have called together this press conference today in order to express my views of recent events. It would appear to me, as a stockholder and investor in Oscorp Industries, that the company is teetering on the edge of disaster despite its recent impressive performance. With nearly the entire board of directors murdered and many strange events surrounding it, it is apparent to me that the company will be much better as a Kuno family holding."

As she continued ranting Kodachi, felt herself becoming edgy as the Green Goblin continued to make no appearance. If he didn't appear soon, she would look like a great fool for making such a statement and then failing to go through with it."

"Miss Kuno," a reporter asked. "You're a Japanese citizen here on a student visa, don't you suspect that the government will drop the defense contracts that are so lucrative for Oscorp, if it is purchased by a foreign citizen."

"Perhaps," Kodachi said. "But there are many other fields of research to delve into. Horticulture, for example."

There was a small rumble in the crowd as the thought of Oscorp developing farm technologies came to mind. Kodachi was more than a little miffed at her preferred branch of science's reception, but she held down that reaction.

"Where is..." Kodachi thought as another question was fielded towards her. Then she felt the sense of danger coming, and with a brief glance saw an approaching speck in the distant sky.

Eddie Brock watched Kodachi carefully, noticing her brief glance skyward before she turned back to the reporters in front of her.

The Globe reporter glanced in that direction as well, and almost dismissed the unexceptional sight as quickly as she did, but that speck was larger now, and Brock saw it getting even larger. It didn't take long for him to see what it was.

It was a good thing that Kodachi had insisted they set the podium so far from either the seats on the stage or the crowd of reporters. She was out, as alone as the trap made possible, and waiting for the bite to snap. She only needed to wait a few more seconds for the Goblin to get into position. Then Peter would attack and, in the confusion, she would join him, the trap would close.

"Come closer," Kodachi thought to herself as she gave another inane answer to another question. "Close...ooof!"

In her attention to the danger she was already warned about, Kodachi failed to note the approach and tackle of one of the reporters in the crowd. A moment behind her tackler, a missile streaked down into where she had stood and exploded.

"I may have held off too long," Kodachi thought to herself quietly.

Eddie glanced up among the screams of people running for cover and saw the Goblin glancing back at them and cursing as he started to come for another pass. Eddie was in the process of dragging up the girl he'd just resuced when he saw Spider-Man appear and start battling the Green Goblin.

Eddie turned back to Kodachi and took her hand to help her up.

"Sorry about that," he said. "But we need to get..."

Eddie's voice trailed off as he caught sight of a rough circle of whitish flesh stretched out underneath Kodachi's wrist. His first thought was that it was some sort of scar, but it didn't really look like one. And further up under Kodachi's sleeve, Eddie caught a hint of red and blue fabric.

"Thank you," Kodachi said quickly, "But I can handle my own...Eddie?" She blinked confused. "What are you doing here? Nevermind, I have to go..."

With that she stood up and started to run out of sight.

It wasn't much longer before Spider-Rose joined the fight against the Goblin...
