"Well then," he said with an attempt at a reassuring grin. "What d'ya guys wanna do?"
"You're asking us?" Nabiki said with a bit of surprise.
"Yeah, pretty much. Ya got a problem with that?"
"No... But it isn't what we were expecting."
"But it's not like we have any choice," Akane muttered. "You sound like you want to know."
The pigtailed boy shrugged. "I do. I mean, ya may have had a bit of a clue before, but nobody told me what was goin' on until we came in."
"They didn't?" Kasumi asked with a bit of surprise.
"Nope. I come in, and they say, 'here, you got three slavegirls now'."
"That must have been a shock."
"It was, but I'm gonna have ta deal with it. Still, do ya guys have anythin' ya wanna do? I didn't plan on any of this, so I ain't got a clue right now."
Frowning, the middle Tendo daughter gave him a thoughtful look. "Do you mean right now, or for the future."
"Either really. Right now I've gotta do nothin' but figure out how ta deal with this, and since ya guys are stuck with this, ya might as well tell me what ya'd like ta do."
"You know, there will be limits to what we can do," she reminded him, "Most owners would just give orders."
"I ain't ever liked that. It ain't like ya are robots, or somethin' like that. Ya got minds of your own, and ya have lived here, so ya know what there is ta do. If ya have ta have an explanation, then just think of me askin' for a suggestion."
"And if we don't have an idea of our own? What would you suggest?"
"I dunno... Maybe we can..," he began uncertainly, "We could always see 'bout buyin' those girls Akane wanted."
"Just like that?" the girl in question asked.
"Yeah... I mean, I could get 'em, and ya could still be teachin' or runnin' them. I guess... I don't know what else I can do right now. Pops didn't give me any notice, so I didn't know that I was even gonna stay here."
"You could always go to school."
"Great... Never liked it, and probably won't now..."
All three girls looked between each other in confusion as they tried to figure their new master out. He seemed to be rather laid back, or otherwise he was shocked in confusion. But either way, they knew that things were not about to change, so they merely turned to gaze at him.
"What?" Ranma asked, worried that he'd done something that he wasn't supposed to. "Did I say somethin' wrong?"
"Not really," Nabiki told him. "We were just wondering if you were always going to be like this. You don't seem to be like most in your... position."
"I ain't like 'em 'cause I don't wanna be. I ain't ever seen a reason ta be all grouchy. I mean, my old man's been more trouble than anyone else I know."
"So... you want to be... friends?"
"Well... I... uh... I could..."
Kasumi looked at him as he tried to act nonchalantly, and giggled slightly. Nabiki turned back to her thoughtful look. And Akane just wondered what she should think about him.
