In fact, because of where they had exited, they didn't know immediately that the world had changed. In the mountains near Okayama, they were isolated from those changes for the first day.

Though something had clearly changed, as prior to their trip Ranma had not been able to leap quite so far. Nor had Genma the ability to turn into any animal of the same mass. Most of the time he went with panda because it seemed the easiest.

It wasn't until MUCH later that they discovered that the change in their history dated from:

• 1002 - Leif Ericson's sister Freydis did NOT go breaking Viking law, and as a result Vinland was never abandoned.
• 1264 - Marco Polo's expedition goes a little differently.
• 1802 - Robert Livingston intervenes and Robert Fulton's second meeting with Napoleon is not rejected.
• 1543 - The Nanban Trade Period is begun, but with rather different results.
• some other timeframe
