Ranma: evolution: On his own. [Episode 112918]

by David L. Battley

“True,” Frost said, “If there is one mutant who can hide and not be found when she wants to, it’s Mystique. And believe me, right now, she doesn’t want to be found.”

“And how did you come to that conclusion.” asked Leland.

“Ranma’s thoughts told me she has to do a job for Magneto on the condition that he is not harmed. Unaware of Ranma’s escape, she will continue that mission and most likely succeed. Ranma would stop her but he doesn’t know where her target is.”

“Please stop being vague, Emma.” Selene said in annoyance.

“From what I could glean from Ranma’s mind, she must obtain the second of several puzzle pieces. She must liberate it from the care of Charles Xavier.” Several members of the inner circle shifted in their seats at this. Not only because Xavier was a formidable mutant with excellent resources and backed by sever other powerful mutants, but because he had something Magneto wanted. Whenever those two were involved, it always made the evening news. Keeping a low profile was something the Hellfire club excelled at and found extremely profitable.

“So we let her obtain the object then intercept her on her way out telling her that the Saotome boy has changed hands as well as gaining the object in question.”

“Coming between Magneto and Xavier in their little war is not in the best interest of the hellfire club at the moment.” said Shaw. “But knowing what it is they are going after most definitely is.”

“A quandary, oh King,” Seline drawled. “To know what the puzzle is, we would have to have it in our possession in order to study it.”

“Or, if we’re lucky, that information is on that destroyed hard drive. But that may takes days or even weeks to recover.” said Pierce.

“And Mystique had only two days to recover the item, one of which is already gone.” Emma Frost mused, “Ranma would have already left if he knew the location of Xavier’s little school, and the fact that we are keeping that knowledge from him isn’t going to put us in a favorable light. It might be best to cut our losses and let the boy go.” She noticed the Black Queen bristle a little at the idea and took some pleasure from it.

“In fact, I have already taken steps to insure he is pointed in the right direction.”

“You let him go?” Seline nearly shrieked.

“Please explain, Emma.” said Shaw.

“The boy easily made Magneto and his acolytes look like foolish amateurs, as well as causing considerable property damage. Unless you think this group would have better luck than them, we should help the boy complete his mission and possibly remain on his, and Mystiques, good side.”

----------------------------------------------

Ranma made is way out of the mansion. No way was he going to play the pawn to people on a power trip, mutants or no. He had heard part of that conversation on his way back from the kitchen, especially the part where they knew the location of this Xavier guy.

He jumped out the window to his room, only on the second story.

“Ranma?”

He whirled as he landed only to see a red haired western girl standing behind him.

“Who are you?” his asked in his best impersonation of English.

“For you.” she said in Japanese, holding a large envelope out to him. It was apparently the extent of her language skills because she waved and said good-bye and left.

Inside the envelope was about three hundred dollars in US cash, a map, a bus ticket, and a note. Written in Japanese, the note simply wished him luck and to remember his stay and the kindness showed to him as well as an offer to come back either by necessity or choice, signed Emma Frost. The map showed upstate New York with a red X on the small city of Bayville.

Ranma wasn’t sure what to think about the telepath sneaking into his head, but took the money anyway and the bus ticket. With any luck he would be at his destination by morning.
