A Japanese Tomboy in Quagmire: Landings and Greetings: Akane's adventure begins! [Episode 113147]

by Ninja Kasuga of the Demonite Race

A few days ago:

Akane was jolted awake as her plane touched down on the tarmac of Quagmire Municipal Airport. She stretched as best she could without bumping the person in the seat next to her, and winced as her joints popped; it wasn’t fun being in a seat for over 22 hours and not to mention the overpowering feeling of fatigue.

”I guess this is the dreaded jetlag,” she mumbled to herself under her breath as she tried to move as much as she could to get the circulation in her body going.

She looked out the window to the right of her seat; she was lucky to get a window seat and see some sights from above on the flight. She saw the airport as the plane taxied in, well this was it. She was in America, no family or friends…no Ranma.

She sighed, she knew things between her and Ranma were rocky but she really missed his presence. Despite some of her…rants Ranma had been a source of chaos and comfort in her life. Weird things beyond her definition of the norm in Nerima went through the roof when he arrived, but he also brought with him a level of security. Akane never liked being a damsel in distress, no sir not a bit…but knowing that Ranma was always there to protect her brought warmth to her heart.

She shook her head with a soft chuckle, “and he isn’t around to keep me safe this time.” She recalled his playful words. “Well, have to prove I can handle things on my own some day.” She pumped her fist with a smirk of confidence.

Meanwhile on the ground, the Feeple family waited among the group of people expecting the incoming flight. Lexus held up a sign with the name Akane Tendo in both English and Japanese letters, Jeremy stood by Asrial who was holding their youngest Lyra. Lexus turned to look at his parents, “So Mom, Dad any clue as to who our guest looks like? I mean this flight is coming from Japan and probably has a few good number of Asians on board.”

Jeremy shrugged, “Other than she has short hair and is a martial artist we weren’t given any detailed descriptions or a photo, hence why we have that sign.”

Lexus looked at the sign and chuckled sheepishly. “Oh yeah…that makes sense.”

Finally the flight from Japan taxied into place and a mobile boarding stairway drove right up to the forward hatch of the plane. A few seconds later the hatch was opened by a stewardess who moved to the side as people began to slowly shuffle off the plane. About five to seven minutes later Akane stepped out of the plane and down the boarding stairs, almost immediately she saw the sign with her name on it and walked over toward the person holding the sign. “Uh hello, I Akane Tendo.” She said with slightly broken English; oh why didn’t she pay more attention? She knew how to speak English and understand it but she still had some problems with some words.

Lexus put down the sign and smiled, “Welcome Akane, welcome to America.”

Akane blinked, “You can speak Japanese?” She asked reverting back to her native tongue.

”Hai, my Grandmother taught me.” He nodded.

Akane sighed a little in relief, “you have no idea how good it feels to know somebody can speak a language I know how to speak without butchering.” She smiled sheepishly.

“It’s okay, besides translation problems are easy to deal with.” Lexus turned to his parents who approached and switched back to English. “Akane, these are my parents Jeremy and Asrial Feeple and the girl in Mom’s arms I my younger sister Lyra.”

Jeremy smiled and bowed before offering his hand out. “Nice to meet you Akane welcome to Quagmire.” He idly thought about cracking a joke about bringing a straight jacket considering how odd Quagmire could be but thought better of it and held back the joke.

Akane returned both the bow and handshake. “Arigato Mr. Feeple, feeling is mutual.” She chuckled sheepishly at her botched English. “Sorry, my English not so good.”

Asrial gave the girl a comforting shoulder pat. “Don’t worry about it Akane, We all here know that little problem,” she turned to look at her youngest, “Lyra can you say hi to the nice girl?”

”H’lo.” Lyra waved shyly, cuddling her face back into her Mother’s neck.

Asrial giggled as she patted her youngest on the back. “Lyra’s still a little shy around non-family members.”

Akane smiled, “I was like that at her myself.”

”Well not we’re all acquainted, how about we get the rest of your luggage Akane and then we’ll take you to our home.”

Akane nodded to Jeremy. “Well here I am, far, far away from home; no Ranma, no Kasumi…I’m on my own in a foreign country.” Akane thought to herself with both apprehension and a little glee at the same time.
