Jill Valentine shook her head as Nabiki continued to argue with the other two Asians. How had they planned to attack? One old (but admittedly spry) woman, and a middle-aged man, with no weapons between them? Now they were no doubt going to have to baby-sit these two as well as the Tendo girl. Why Trent said they would need her, she had no idea...
"I don't like this." One of her companions whispered to her, and she nodded. Carlos Oliveira might not yet be trusted completely by the others fighting against Umbrella, seeing as how he used to work for them, but Jill owed him her life. No, she only wished this wasn't so rushed!
It had only been three weeks ago that they had been contacted by their 'friend,' Trent. He had told them that Umbrella was working on a project here in Death Valley that could change the very nature of their battle. If what Umbrella was working on succeeded, then they might never be able to bring Umbrella down. But if they were to gain use of it, then Umbrella's days would be numbered. But if they wanted to have that chance, they would need to move soon, and they would need to take in a Japanese college girl that seemed bound and determined to get herself killed one way or another.
Frankly, their de-facto leader, Barry Burton, didn't really trust the information. He would just as soon destroy whatever Umbrella was working on... but Trent's information had paid off in the past. So he sent the only people he had available to him to investigate: Jill, Carlos, and Leon Kennedy. Jill would have preferred more people, and lo and behold, right here at the last stop before they go in, here are two more people planning an assault. People that Nabiki knew.
Jill shook her head. Somehow, she was sure, Trent was behind this, too.
Meanwhile Leon was trying to talk sense into the other Asians. "Look, I don't know what you think is in there, but you fists or a stick of wood isn't going to cut it! And we don't have the equipment to outfit the two of you as well."
Cologne snorted. "Guns and armor," she said, mockingly, "aren't going to help you in this fight. At least, not anymore."
Nabiki blinked. Cologne was serious about this? She knew the old woman disdained modern weapons, but was also well aware that both never denied the effectiveness of those weapons, or derided those who could use them with skill. "What's going on, Granny?"
"Something evil is out there, in the desert. And Shampoo, Ranma, and some others are caught up in the middle of it."
Leon shook his head. "Look, I'm sorry to say this, but your wrong. I know, I've seen what Umbrella can do. The walking dead, their bio-organic weapons. They are too dangerous! Believe me, the best bet is to take them out from a distance..."
"I am not speaking of the undead, boy." Cologne said, glaring at him. "I have dealt with such before. I am telling you, something out there is EVIL! Awake, aware, intelligent, and as dark as the pit. You may be able to triumph over more mundane things that possess no mind greater than that of an animals, but that is not what is out there. You will have to bring your spirit to this fight directly to win."
"Look, I don't care what new-age mysticism you buy into, this is..."
"This is not new-age, I assure you, boy." Cologne interrupted. Then she closed her eyes a moment.
Leon gasped a the old woman seemed to bust into blue flames... but the flames didn't burn anything it touched. Gasps heard from behind him indicated that the display had gotten the attention of Jill and Carlos as well. The older man and Nabiki seemed unfazed by it.
Then things began to shake. At first Leon thought it might be an earthquake, but then the table lifted off the ground, and hung suspended in the air. Around them, other people shrieked or started panicking as other objects began floating.
Cologne opened her eyes. "There is more to this world that you know, child. And I suspect this Umbrella is equally unaware of them. And they either woke something up, or managed to create them. This will be a fight like no other you have ever seen."
The three veterans of the war against Umbrella just stared at the sight. What kind of fight were they in for now?
