Chained World: Mamluk-yojimbo, S-Class [Episode 113770]

by Kestral

The mamluk or soldier-slave aka jannissary was a very old profession and it hearkened back to the Ottoman Empire, though it had evolved a bit since those days. The common mamluk was a licensed soldier with some other skills, who signed a five year contract, and was typically cannon fodder. Higher ratings on mamluk, C Class and above, typically got to work with the more high tech end of warfare.

When Admiral Akhbar had opened Japan for trade after the inclusion, the similarity between mamluk and samurai had been noted. Hundreds of samurai saw a means by which their impoverished families could be enriched and became mamluk-bodyguards, the most elite and multi-purpose of the mamluk. It was a position of honor and service - the very hallmarks of a samurai's existence. At the time it was ten year contracts, but the number of samurai entering service among the rest of the world had a permanent effect. Thereafter the term yojimbo came to mean a mamluk-bodyguard.

The typical thug/soldier/black suit was E-Class. They could fight, look imposing, drive, and shoot a gun. They weren't pushovers, but the fact remained that they were common and not particularly skilled. Better than them were the D-Class, who had good skills and could easily handle the duties of protecting the average person in a modern setting.

It was when you got to A-Class and S-Class that things got really strange. Some of these eventually gave up the mamluk-yojimbo life to become Arena contract-slaves. They'd bring staggering sums of money to their owners, and not incidently to their own accounts, and could utilize abilities that seemed superhuman.

Ranma was A-Class, and everyone involved in the grading and testing of professional slaves fully expected him to reach S-Class when he finished maturing.

BEEP!

Sailor Mercury's eyes bugged as she watched the energy readings escalate.

"Whoa," said Sailor Jupiter.

"He's absorbing energy from his immediate environment," said Mercury, feeling the wind blowing towards Ranma but more interested in the numbers and graphs being displayed on the monitor.

"Oh - the naikikou technique," exclaimed Jupiter. "To think I could see it with my own eyes!"

"Naikikou?" asked Venus, who never read the articles.

"It takes exterior energy and changes it to your own power, one of the Chinese kikou techniques," said Jupiter, admiration and something else in her voice.

"'kikou'?" asked Venus, now wondering if maybe she should read the articles instead of just looking at the pictures.

"Part of the kamui no ken, the spirit warrior techniques," answered Jupiter. "You know that guy on the fight circuit, Shizuma Kusanagi? He uses kamui no ken."

"Ohhhhhhhhh," said Moon, Venus, and Mars - now understanding.

Ranma stood at the center of that wind, just standing there and looking at the yoma. The yoma bracing herself as if a stiff wind was at her back blowing towards the boy facing her.

Mars edged towards Moon. "You know, this might be a good time to tag her with one of your attacks. She's distracted."

"Huh?" said the distracted Moon.

"Each of the kamui users has an element," said Jupiter, hoping that Mercury was recording all this so she could do a frame-by-frame later. Ohhh. Just look at how the swirling wind pushed those pants against that tight tight muscled body for brief glimpses.

"Like we do?" asked Venus.

"Here it comes," said Jupiter, watching the yojimbo form an elemental attack forged by his own spirit. It looked like he WOULD be making S-Class as he had just-
