She shook her head as teh eyrines were continually rebuffed from the temple grounds. None of the demonic spies seemed to have come prepared for actual battle, which was why they were wielding only their claws in this fight.
The fight was being prolonged, however, by what Athena assumed were the seraphim's orders to guard the temple rather than pursue any attacker. The eyrines would circle about the walls and then try to come in somewhere else, only to clash again.
It was beginning to look like they'd be giving up and leaving completely, fewer thunder claps were punctuating the conversation in doors. A particularly loud one did rattle through just after her comment to the others though.
"Wh..what makes sense?" Mara asked, shaking a little upon realizing what the "storm" outside entailed.
"There are only a few reasons to start such an...event," Athena said. "The most common being to make a party more 'fun.' As this it started at lunch rather than a..."
"Most common?" Megumi said. "You mean this kind of thing happens a lot."
"How was that party you went to the other night, Megumi?" Chihiro asked, head resting comfortably under Sayoko's breasts while her hands were crossed behind the rich girl's back. "I heard there was some great punch."
"Ah, right," Megumi said, flushing. "But I didn't know the punch was spiked! Ohh, I see what you mean..."
Sayoko's expression was a combination of consternation, embarrassment and indignation, threaded through with traces of happiness. She had her own hands lying on Chihiro's shoulders while she listened to what Athena had to say.
Truthfully the break had come at a fortuitous time. One of the eyrines had almost broken into the building before being cut down by a seraphim, causing it to dissipate into nothingness. At least until it reformed itself in hell a few years down the line.
Which had signalled a revitalization of the battle outside. A swift succession of crashes and flashes erupted in the skies above them and Athena considered grabbing her shield and ending the situation right then, but the battle just as quickly returned to a variation of what it had been already.
"Might I continue now?" Athena asked, as if she were indignant at being interrupted.
"Sorry," Megumi said sheepishly.
"Now, as I was saying, this was just lunch, not a party," Athena continued. "And few involved are the wild sorts anyway. So the 'fun' issue is probably unlikely. There is the possibility that you deliberate used it with the purpose of forming a bond, but, of course that is disproven by how unaware you all are. The next two options were that someone was playing cupid or someone was trying to wreck a relationship. Which pointed to Peorth, Mara, Skuld..."
"What?" Skuld said in a sudden shock at hearing her name included.
"...and, of course, Urd," Athena continued as if she hadn't heard Skuld. "This sort of thing is currently beyond Skuld, so she can't be considered. If it were intended to cause chaos and confusion, then Mara would be involved, but she wouldn't have allowed herself to be anywhere near when everything happened."
"You got that right," Mara said, crossing her arms, mostly unconcerned with her nudity. "I'd be watching froma tree somewhere."
"So that leaves Peorth and Urd," Athena said. "Peorth wasn't she aware of what happened when she awoke. Assuming the drug does not take away memory, which we know it does not, then that leaves Urd."
"Umm, Peorth could be lying," Megumi said.
"Not without me knowing," Athena said. "But it is moot anyway, she couldn't make such a drug, it isn't in her fields of study. Which brings us to Urd and the category of 'good intentions.'"
"Did you say bond?" Mara and Skuld asked almost at once.
"Yes," Belldandy said, flushing slightly, though not from any sort of sexual thought for once that day. "Can't you feel it?"
As the various goddesses and the demon searched their feelings for the mentioned bond, Athena watched as another of the eyrines dissipate.
