One thing could be said about Ranma- He did his best to be a good friend.
Sadly, his friends were often only slightly less mentally twisted than he was. Ryouga, for instance. Who had, for a number of years, held grudges like they were a lifeline, and who knows? They might have been. But he was a decent friend as well. He just showed the unfortunate tendency that nearly everyone in Ranma's life who was under the age of 100 did when they tried to help him train- A lack of preperation.
Like not realizing that somebody is conning them. Or forgetting to read the next page. That one came up surprisingly often. One might think it was some effect of the Jusyenko Curse. Or lazy authors. As if that is any better.
The rock Ranma was preparing to kiss was a small, intensely green glowing stone, sitting on this small, generic island, which with any luck, we'll never have to see again after they leave.
Ryouga had come to Ranma a few weeks ago, yelling that he had found something incredible. A few days ago, Ryouga had reached his house, where Ranma had managed to show surprising patience in staking out, and had shown Ranma the ancient text he had found. He hadn't been sure where he'd found it, but he'd mentioned something about the whole place looking like they'd been letting the mold at those buildings go too long, and he could've sworn there were sharks flopping around in the distance.
The book, which for the most part was about the truly awful fate the reader's were going to suffer for looking through it, and a few designs that looked like the crayon drawings of a severely disturbed four year old. Finally, about three quarters of the way through, a paragraph read, with a picture of the stone to the side:
And thee moste terriblest of thee curses that shall be laydeth upon thou who readest this tome of anciente knowledgee is to come acrosse this stoneth, which dost havest the power to make ye thee greatesteth ofe alle warriorsest, fore a terriblest, gruesometh price!
An aftermath in red crayon was scrawled on the side. "
Ranma was, of course, not the sort to let a little eternal doom and blatant fraudulity get between him and being seperated from this curse. After stopping Ryouga from running out the door, he'd used the suspiciously exact map to charter a ship to the island. After going through their funds, he decided instead to borrow a rowboat without intention to return it.
Ranma, untrusting though he was, lowered his head to kiss the stone, and recoiled, screaming in pain. Flames rose from his face, as he clawed his face in unspeakable pain, and Ryouga, panicked, took off at a dead run before something worse happened. Ryouga, while a fool, had enough experience with awful magical artifacts to know that they rarely were satisfied with ruining one person's life.
Ranma sat, laughing. " Ah, I can't believe he fell for that one... I'm sure the goof'll be back soon enough." He stood, chuckling to himself, and then stopped. His teeth shook, his tongue feeling like it had been hit by a thunderbolt. Before he had time to hold his head to try to stop the shaking, it stopped as quickly as it had began.
