Potion Problems: Not an Accident [Episode 114255]

by Thrythlind

Urd ignored the incredulous looks on the others' faces, the bond WAS a good thing, altered to its PROPER recipe, it would make a good honeymoon blessing. True, there were already a number of those in existence, but one more couldn't hurt. She made a mental note to send a memo to Benten, Aphrodite and the others to pass the recipe along. It always felt good to have another spell or potion named for her in the libraries and labs.

At any rate, the presence of one fouled up ingredient in her common stockhold indicated the possibility of others. She was often accused of being reckless, and that was the case, but she was very careful about her potions and formulas. This was a very...disturbing.

She sat down at her work table and started to pull out ingredients, investigating them closely. The process of checking every ingredient would take a long time, but it had to be done before she made another potion, and she made some of her potions on a daily basis...or at least as often as she had a hangover.

What she found didn't show any skill with identifying herbs or breaking her code. The only skill possessed by whoever had come into her "castle" was the ability to notice basic physical similarities.

Whoever it was didn't have to be an alchemical genius to notice that the mushrooms she ground for her free will enforcer resembled the inhibitor almost completely, they merely switched them around in the jars. Her other ingredients, at least those that were similar to others she held in stock, were in similar straights. There was even a deadly poison buried within one of the prime ingredients for her hangover cure, and that shouldn't have been in any of her ingredient jars.

It was only luck that this potion was the first to be affected. She'd had to use a variety of rare ingredients that she didn't usually keep on hand. Only a few of her standard stock had been used. Any more and she could have ended up killing them all.

Urd frowned as she set her ingredients to their proper bottles and wondered just what the point of this sabotage was. This wasn't Mara's style, and if this had been her work she would have reacted someway other than confusion when Urd came storming out of her room earlier.

It had to be recent as well, because otherwise she'd have taken a bad potion already.

So, who had mixed up all her ingredients?

"Urd," Belldandy said, knocking on the door. "Lunch is almost ready."

"Huh," Urd said, snapped out of her thought. "What...already? What did I miss?"
