“It looks like you've gotten yourself a lot of trouble, Naruto.” Jiraiya spoke as he entered the stand. His face seemed to be warring with itself over if it should be worried or envious.
“Ero-sennin!” Naruto said as he lifted his head from the counter.
“Ero-gaki.” Jiraiya responded with a smirk. He then took a grimmer look. “Naruto, I need to speak with you in private... and in a more secure area.”
“Why is that? It isn't like it's not public news that I'm under a death sentence.” Naruto groaned.
“Not as much as you think...” Jiraiya said with a chuckle. “Anyway, we'd better clear out of here soon. Your new harem has started waking up, and they are already getting organized. How many of them do you think know about your ramen addiction?”
“...we've got to get out of here.” Naruto stated grimly. Jiraiya placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder and they both vanished in twin puffs of smoke.
And not a moment too soon as a group of kunoichi burst into the stand. Teuchi looked up from where Naruto and Jiraiya had been sitting scant seconds ago.
“Erm... Welcome to Ichiraku. May I help you?” Teuchi said, followed immediately by an awkward silence.
“So, that's what happened...” Jiraiya spoke from his position atop a fallen tree trunk. “I knew the subtler suggestion couldn't have been yours.”
“What's that suppose to mean?” Naruto said while leaning against the log. “And you mean to say you could sense the pulse?”
“Of course, I'm the one teaching you the technique after all.” Jiraiya said. “Although I wouldn't think that the fox would be considerate enough to keep this from being a total blood bath.”
“How was it considerate?” Naruto stated grimly. “I'm all but dead around here.”
“Not as much as you would think.” Jiraiya said with a grin. “I'm speaking about the difference between the message I was training you to send and the one that you actually sent.”
“What do you mean by that?” Naruto said with a blank look.
“The technique I was training you to use was a one time deal. You used it, the persons affected would comply and then everything would resume as normal.” Jiraiya stated. “The message that was sent was set up quite a bit differently.”
“It was set up differently?” Naruto queried. “You mean it doesn’t stop on it's own?”
“Oh, I see your quite a bit sharper then usual today.” Jiraiya said to a fuming Naruto. “The lust message that was sent out and it carried out it's function over the selected area, as you personally know. However, it was set up so a watered down version of the instructions would sink into the sub-conscious of the affected.”
“So, the women chasing me now are coming back for seconds?” Naruto asked with a confused look on his face.
“Not really. Like I said the instructions were diluted. The effect of this depends on the individuals, each reacting to this situation in their own way.” Jiraiya spoke. “From what I've seen thus far, most are attempting to pretend that last night never happened. Others are, as you so put it, coming back for seconds. Some even believe that they've fallen in love with you, it all depends on the person in question.”
“So... is there going to be anyone who wants my imminent death somewhere on your list?” Naruto asked.
“Depends...” Jiraiya responded.
“On what?” Came Naruto's own response.
“On who knows about last night.” Jiraiya answered. “Outside the women who still hate your guts and the crazy stalker types, it depends on if the male half of Konoha finds out about what happened.”
“Oh, good.” Naruto then paused. “Do they know?”
“Not last time I checked.” Jiraiya said to Naruto's relief. “What about you?” Naruto queried.
“I'm not bothered by it, Tsunade was spared due to a clause about the age of the targets.” Jiraiya stated, before adding gleefully. “Anyway, this is several volumes worth of research!”
“I should have known.” Naruto said with a sigh.
Naruto and Jiraiya spoke for some time after before Jiraiya bid Naruto farewell. Naruto, alone for the moment, stood in the clearing he had wandered into before noticing that the sun was beginning it's decent below the horizon.
“I guess I should go meet with her...” Naruto thought aloud, still unnerved over his teachers sudden change. As he began to leave he sensed something a little ways off that he had the feeling he had to see. Yet, if he went he could become late for his meeting with Kakashi-sensei...
