"This royally sucks..," Venus muttered.
Mars snorted. "You're telling us? We're stuck here while the world drops into some sort of... massive die off."
"Yes, but I can still be frustrated."
"Now that is true enough."
"So, what do we do?"
"I'm not quite sure myself," the Fire Senshi replied as she idly gave Dark Pluto's unconscious form a whack.
"Feel better?"
"Much."
"If you're done with that, this should prove to be interesting," Mercury piped up.
"What is it?" Serenity asked.
"It looks like the boys have seen the light."
"Huh?"
"They've decided to take advantage of their situation."
There would have been a great many individuals, both militant feminist, and otherwise, who would have seen the sudden fall of the male half of humanity as a point at which the women could start to take over. It would be a time when they could show just how the world would be with female rulers, and could finally have the chance to push back the men for their 'oppression' of the fairer sex.
But with women watching their menfolk suffer and die, it wasn't quite the atmosphere that they would have liked. Then there was the simple fact that without any men, or appropriate substitutes, the species simply couldn't go on. And when the fact that it was apparently either started, or being taken advantage of, by some insane militant woman's group, the idea of crushing men any further was seen as not such an appealing notion.
However, the men didn't stay inactive themselves. They'd been through a lot, and nearly died while others of their gender had passed on. Many of them were handicapped in some way or another, and needed help. Plus some of the men who had survived had lost close friends and family members to the plague.
It was only natural that they would start attaching themselves to the only people left to them, who would happen to be the women. They needed to connect, and to have some sort of place where they could feel comfortable. Which wasn't hard, after what had been happening.
But a strange thing started occurring. Men started finding that women, some of whom who had been very big on telling others to 'do it yourself', were coddling the same men that they would have kicked out earlier. Guys who'd never gotten much attention were suddenly swimming in it, with things going from simple looks, to cooking lunch even if not asked, to offering themselves as bed companions. There was a spectrum of reactions, and no one man got them all, but it was clear that a lot of girls were very focused on the remaining men.
That wasn't surprising, considering the circumstances. There was now a very disproportionate amount of males to females, with only a fraction of the guys surviving the disease. Not only that, but most of these women had watched those men they loved, cared for, or liked die slow and agonising deaths, and many of them needed some sort of emotional balm to take away the edge fromt the memories. Combined with the fact that a lot of these guys were now alone, and in some cases were struck with some permanent result of thier illness, girls were taking great notice of the living victims of the plague.
So, guys started realising that just by sticking around, they would have girls approaching them. Women on the other hand, had sexual, emotional, and sometimes even maternal, needs, and only a limited number of men to satisfy it with. That made for an interesting sitation by anyone's reckoning.
And it resulted in a balance that had things where:
