"Bitch. After I deliver this to the Red Preist, I'll get back to you," Zolf muttered, as he carried the orihalcum statue.
Zolf headed to the abandoned chruch that Zelgadis was using as a base. He shook his head in annoyance.
"Comes in, blows up everything, and then swoops off with almost all the treasure. We should have been prepared for her."
Zolf saw that Rodimus, Zelgadis, Dilgear, and the rest were waiting for him. He held up the statue to show.
"She sold it to a magic store, and I had to buy it.<" Zolf called out.
Zelgadis took the statue from Zolf and truned it end over end. The chimera gave a quiet chuckle.
"Just a minor setback then. She didn't even know what she had."
Before he could say any more, another voice broke in.
"True. Now, I can use this to finally open my eyes."
A thump folwed by a clanking sound, heraled Rezo the Red Preist's arrivial. His heavy metal staff maing the thumps and clanks. Rezo held out his right hand and the statue flew out of Zelgadis's grip. Rezo caught the statue and stared at it.
"What is this?" Rezo demanded, his voice rising. "I can't feel anything special about this statue."
The small statue was subjected to Rezo's energy and shattered in his hand.
Rezo, with shaking hand and voice, declared, "Empty. The statue was empty."
Zolf asked, "Could we have been chasing the wrong statue?"
Clenching his fist over the shards, Rezo replied, "My research indicated that this is where the Philospher's Stone was hidden. It must have been removed, before I got ahold of it."
Zelgadis mused. "Then it could have been any magic user since the last time the stone was used."
Rezo said, "No. No magician would be able to resist using the stone for any length of time. It had to be removed recently. The only person with any magical talent who has been in contact with the statue recently are Zolf and Lina Inverse."
Zolf backed up and spread his hands. "You don't think I did it, do you?"
"You had the time, but I doubt you could have removed the stone and reshaped the statue back the way it was. Lina Inverse on the other hand has a reputation for knowing a lot of powerful magic."
Zelgadis said, "Well Zolf, it looks like you get your wish of tracking her down after all. How are we going to find her?"
Zolf snorted, "That's no problem, a surviving bandit overheard Lina's conversation with that Gourry fellow. She's headed towards Atlas City."
Rezo tossed the orihalcum shards to the ground and said, "Come with me Zolf, I'm going to need your help in scrying for her."
