Honda Tohru was dead.
There was a bloodied knife sticking out of her chest, which had been plunged right into her heart. That would do the job, wouldn't it? It's hard to remain living with a big piece of metal jammed into your cardiac muscle.
The members of the Souma household had found Tohru laying out flat on her back, the big kitchen knife sticking out of her breast vertically. Sightless eyes stared up at the ceiling, but her mouth was still pulled into a gentle smile, as if rigor mortis had set into her smiling muscles ahead of every other body part.
It was kinda creepy, actually.
"TOHRU! TOHHHRUUUU!!!" screamed Kyou as he hugged the limp body of Honda Tohru close to him. Apparently, the rule about turning into an animal whenever hugging someone of the opposite sex didn't apply to corpses.
Kyou was hugging Tohru's body. Yuki and Shigure were keeping their distance. Very much keeping their distances. They didn't even enter the room.
Kyou suddenly stopped sobbing, then turned a hostile glare back to Yuki. "Yuki, you cold-hearted rat, don't you care that Tohru is dead on our own floor?!" Kyou scolded. His opinion of Yuki just fell to an all-time low.
"What? No word for Shigure?" asked Yuki.
"I expect this kind of callousness out of Shigure!" Kyou snapped.
Shigure frowned at that. "Oh, thanks!" he groused.
"So what do you have to say for yourself, Rat?"
"Kyou..." Yuki said carefully, "she's still smiling!"
Kyou looked down at Tohru's face. Tohru's smiling face. Tohru's face smiling like everything was happy in the world and everything is all right. It was enduring when she was alive, but now...
A shudder rushed down the Cat's spine. "EWW!" yelped the orange-haired boy, and jumped away like she was a red hot poker. Tohru's head thumped solidly against the floor.
Shigure got a smile on his face. "Hey! Let's look for clues to Tohru's murder. It could be fun!" he quipped.
Yuki rolled his eyes. "Right. This is obviously a usage for the word 'fun' for which I am unfamiliar."
