Ranma was talking to Kasumi and Nabiki when Akane timidly came downstairs. While he was aware of Akane's presence, Ranma had still, somehow, missed how nice Kasumi and Nabiki were being to him.
"R...Ranma?" Akane asked quietly.
Ranma turned to face her. "Are you feeling better, Akane?"
He wasn't prepared for what happened next. Akane suddenly burst into tears and glomped onto him! "I'm sorry!" she cried, "I'm so sorry!"
Ranma tried to get his breath back, and grunted out, "Sorry for what?"
"Sorry for when I hit you, sorry for when I yelled at you, sorry for ever doubting you! It was always my fault! I'm scum! I don't deserve to live! WHAAA!"
Nor Ranma was worried. The Nirvana Touch should have cleaned up all her unbalanced chi, just like it did for Nabiki and Kasumi. But this kind of outburst indicated something was still out of whack. He quickly scanned the crying girl's chi, and frowned at what he saw. "Akane?"
Akane looked up at him with tear-filled eyes.
"Apology accepted. But you really shouldn't be out of bed. I may have been able to heal you, but it still took a lot out of your body, no matter what you may feel like. I want you to go back to your room and take a nap. Kasumi will bring a snack up to you later. Okay?"
Akane nodded, and then released him and shuffled back upstairs still sniffling.
Nabiki noticed Ranma's frown. "Something wrong?"
Ranma nodded. "Yes. With Akane. I don't know what it is, but there is something twisting Akane's chi around inside her."
The other two girls blinked, confused. "What?" Kasumi asked.
Ranma shook his head. "Her chi was so out of order before, I didn't even notice it, but there is something inside her that is working to keep her chi out of balance. I think it is causing all her negative emotions to be disproportionately strong, but I can't be certain."
Nabiki and Kasumi shared a glance. That did sound like their younger sister... "Is there something you can do?" Nabiki asked.
Ranma pondered that for a few moments. "I don't know," he said at last. "The Nirvana Touch can clean her chi up, but it can't remove that... whatever it is. I'll have to look and see if there is anything I can do."
Kasumi saw him show another frown. "There's more, isn't there?"
Ranma nodded. "Whatever it is, its been with her a long time. At least ten years or more. It's so entrenched in her, I'd almost think I was seeing the result of something natural for her, maybe a chemical imbalance in her brain or something... but I don't think that's the case. I'm nearly certain that it's something someone else did to her..."
