[Episode 120313] [Episode 120313]Eyes slowly opened, bleary from too little sleep, and caught sight of the woman sleeping next to him.
With a jolt Ranma sat up and blinked furiously to clear his eyes only to find that his futon was indeed empty, though with not a little trepidation he reached out and flipped the blanket away. He breathed a sigh of relief, then just as quickly cursed at himself for being afraid.
Rubbing his face Ranma looked outside only to see that the sun was only just rising. It would make for a beautiful sunrise, all those different colors, however Ranma just couldn't clear his mind long enough to enjoy it anymore.
Instead as he looked out the window his ears kept straining for sounds he had become familiar with, his pops snoring, the light rattle of dishes as Kasumi prepared breakfast, the sound of Akane entering the house after her morning run. Even the sounds of the neighbors leaving for work or school. Instead silence greeted him, punctuated here and their by bird calls and a solitary splash from one of the Koi in the backyard pond. The total absense of other people just reminded Ranma how alone he now was in the Tendo home.
As he exited the guest room his eyes sought out the rooms of the Tendo sisters. The little signs were still there, unchanged. The rooms were still occupied by possessions the girls hadn't come back for yet, maybe they were waiting for him to leave?
Opening the door to Akane's room he found it undistured except for a few small bits of clothing that had been left behind when the Tendo sisters had come back for a few hours to pack some clothes. It hurt to see them packing, but it hurt worse when none of them would even so much as look at him. When he tried to get their attention they ignored him, getting in their way only made them detour around him, even shouting didn't get any reaction.
When the memory faded away Ranma found himself staring at Akane's desk without understanding why. Did some part of him believe Akane would just come in, call him a baka and then throw him out?
Stopping that line of thought before it got any further Ranma turned around and walked out to the hallway and down the stairs to the bathroom.
No matter how he turned the problem over in his mind he couldn't find a solution where everything would go back to normal, where the girls would talk to him, where his enemies were still human and not protected by certain laws. But though he couldn't accept defeat part of him now realized the only solution now, was to walk away.
As he entered the bathroom he said to himself bitterly. "Saotome Ranma doesn't lose, except.....this time."
