Spider Days: Waking up different... [Episode 120681]

by Thrythlind

Within a week, the cold bug had spread wide throughout Tokyo and was already appearing in Hawaii and other places, though no one had yet identified as anything but a more stubborn than normal cold. They considered it nothing more than the usual flux of viral activity, and thus no attempts to track it were made, and no quarantine had yet been issued.

By the time the magical aspects of the plague were revealed, though only a select few would realize magic was involved, it was too late to prevent a wide spread effect.

Of course, of those that caught the flu, only those of Japanese descent had a high chance of the accompanying transformations, but it would be quite a while before that was discovered.

The seventh day after the plague had started, hundreds awoke around Tokyo...different.

*****

Akane yawned and stretched as she got of bed to start and get ready for her morning jog, finally feeling over the flu.

Her first thought was that she might not be as over the flu as she had thought at first. Everything she was seeing seemed...distorted somehow. It had her confused for a second, but she was enough of a martial artist to quickly adapt. Of course, it did make her question her self-prognosis on her state of health.

Then she caught a glimpse of...something in her hand mirror. It was feminine, of a similar figure as her, but with a shiny, black skin and glittering, red multi-faceted eyes.

She whirled about to confront it, only to find nothing there. A few seconds of scanning the room almost convinced her that she was seeing things.

Then she saw her hands.

Her shiny, black hands.

*****

Kasumi blinked her human eyes in confusion and regarded the extra limbs she had found herself in possession of upon waking up, and wondered if she was truly as free of the flu she'd be handling the last week as she had first thought.

At the moment she was trying to come up with a way to decide whether or not this was a massive hallucination or truth as she somewhat mechanically reached for the sewing kit and begin to make alterations to one of her dresses.

The six red "spots about her forward continued to offer a range of visual information to her as she tried to calm herself with the physical act.

*****

Nabiki slept.

Nor did she look particularly changed from the way she had looked the day before.

There were a few patches of webbing here and there, but, since it was morning and Nabiki was unlikely to awaken before coffee or an earthquake, she was likely to go for quite a while without realizing the nature of her changes.

*****

Similar to Kasumi, Ukyou had also awakened with four extra arms and six extra eyes.

Aside from what she was assuming was either a massive visual hallucination or an incredibly detailed fever dream, she felt all right, and was wondering if she'd be okay to work.

The moment she called for Konatsu to give her an opinion, things got even more confusing.

*****

Kodachi was somewhat more unlucky than others.

First, it had taken her a long, uncomfortable time to get her new, oversized, lower body off of its back and onto its eight legs.

Then, there was the matter of maintaining a proper level of modesty for a girl of her stature.

The fact that she was more concerned about the fashion impacts of her change was not all that surprising, even if she had calmed down into something of a mere eccentric in recent months.

*****

All across the ward and parts of the city, this was happening.
