Spliced Senshi: Morning has come, bringing new surprises... (WAFF) [Episode 121557]

by TheCentauress

Setsuna stood by the Gates of Time. The back side of them, to be exact.

"Where is it? WHERE IS IT?!!?" she screamed, heaving piles of, well, junque (really high quality junk) hither and yon. Items previously used in the Silver Millennium, which were merely crap then. Sailor Mercury Whoopee Cushions™, still inflatable after 10000 years. Serenity-hime stick-on body art, which peels off after 146.25 seconds, even if you used Ultima Glue to apply it. Even Uranus and Neptune themed handcuffs.... well, those could come back into style in about 650 years.

She was searching for something that had suddenly become useful again. A device which could easily fit into a clenched fist, covered with small buttons and an almost FamliCom-esque cursor pad. She had picked it up on a lark about 14 years before the Fall, just to be able to pull a prank on Sailor Mars. Gads, she wished that the girl would have at least reincarnated to become less of a prat...

Somewhere in Juuban, said girl let off a pair of sneezes, one of which seeming to have taken a long time to come out.

Finally, behind a pile of Sailor Venus flashlights, she located her quarry. "Hell yeah!" she screamed, gripping her prize in her fist. "The Sailor Saturn Holo-mask Pen!" True, it technically wasn't using Holography, nor was it a pen; but if it did the job, who was she to argue?

The fist-sized object worked, all right, but like most of the other items here, it contained a small flaw that limited it's effectiveness. Fortunately, this particular model had been revamped by the Silver Millennium Mercury; it was done in trade for dumping those whoopee cushions. Said device left a ghostly maker-mark visible on the image, or at least it did before the Senshi of Wisdom had gotten hold of it. But it still contained the larger flaw, a cyclic 'hiccup' in the image that occurred every five minutes. Said problem would not be too distracting in this case, as she wasn't using it for purposes of trick-pulling, but to check some suggestions from Dr. Mera. Now, if she could remember the keyboard pattern for Lunarian...

Back in Makoto's apartment, when the Senshi of Time opened a gateway later, was one of those 'warm'n'fuzzy' scenes that could even make her break down into a grin.

Makoto was slumped to the side, an empty tube of tennis balls laying close to her open hand. She was mussed-up , as if she had chased after the wolf-girl a few times to get back one of them to throw again. Around her, the furniture was skewed around, indicative of the rowdiness that had occurred earlier. A few feet away from the unSpliced girl, curled around her fuzzy prizes, was the lupine Hotaru; one of the balls slick from saliva where the young girl had sampled the resiliency of the tennis ball, - or wanted to see just why canines did it. Setsuna decided to get the girl a few chew-toys tomorrow.

The emerald-maned woman chuckled to herself and sat down, allowing herself to slip into a light doze. She should have a chance to wake up before the other two and get over to the school in time to take up her Councilor's duties...

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Hotaru twitched, reaching out with a hand-paw to try and reach the snooze bar. Strange, she didn't think think that Makoto had thick-pile futons... After a few moments, she remembered what the two of them had been doing the night before. She murred, remembering the feel of the semi-hard rubber compressing between her strong jaws and the joyous release of bounding around the room. She jet her jaw sag and her tongue protrude, enjoying the feeling of a lupine 'grin' for a moment.

This is so much fun! she thought merrily. Her eyes sparkled in laugher as she decided to help Makoto to wake up. She snuck up behind the taller girl, leaned forward and pressed her cool, wet nose to the sleeping girl's bare neck.

"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!" the auburn haired girl screamed, launching her entire body across the room in a blind panic. She whirled, to find her temporary roommate rolling on the floor, hugging her sides as she laughed.

"Hotaru!" she yelped, as she attempted to calm her trip-hammer heartbeat. "If you... ev...," she paused, seeing the formerly sickly girl finally enjoying things like any other girl her own age. She felt her scowl fade into a small smirk. "Ahh, never mind," she sighed. "Morning, Hotaru-chan."

"yes, it is," a sleep-blurred voice growled from the couch. "and if you don't give me five more minutes, i'm going to be very cross." Setsuna lifted her head to glare over the back of her impromptu bed. The other two slapped their hands over their mouths, as they saw the emerald-maned womans coiffure was severely mussed and her face had a diagonal crease on it from some of the cushion's piping. "go away and let me wake up."

The two girls nodded their heads rapidly, then seemed to teleport into Makoto's bedroom. The bedraggled mistress of Time groaned as she heard the muffled laughter coming from behind the closed door. "girls..." she groaned, flopping back down.

About a half an hour later, the three of them were enjoying a nice breakfast, when Setsuna decided to explain about the conversation that she had with Dr. Mera. The pair nodded, seeing the medical benefits of Splicing easily and also agreeing with them.

At that point, Setsuna held up a small, oval object dotted with many nodules. "Well, this will give us a chance to experiment with some ideas," she smirked, "before we lay out money on a Splice."

Hotaru tilted her head to the side, let out an inquisitive "Urr?", then widened her eyes. "I haven't seen one of those in a long, long time," she gasped. She narrowed her eyes and raised her hackles. "Couldn't you have found it earlier?" she growled.

Setsuna ducked her head. "Sorry, Hime-chan," she gulped.

Makoto blinked. "What is it?" she asked.

The little wolf-girl sighed. "It's an object from the past," she explained. "Simply put, it's a commercial version of a disguise pen. Only it's prone to 'skipping' on the image every so often." She brightened slightly. "But it is the best thing to use to try a possible Splice," she agreed, smiling slightly. "You can even feel the fur and tail with it."

Setsuna giggled, causing the others to scoot away from the table. "Ain't that the truth," she gasped out. "It's perfect to play pranks with." She snickered for a few more moments, then abruptly stopped and returned to her usual non-expression. "Makoto, pick it up with your right hand," she directed.

The tall girl did so hesitantly. As her fingers wrapped around the device, a thin transparent screen appeared in front of her face. [Scanning...... Good Morning, Sailor Jupiter]

The Senshi of Lightning blinked. "Good Morning?" she replied.

The floating screen's words changed. [Sailor Pluto has entered three disguises for you,] the device prompted. [They are as follows: Skunk-girl Jupiter, Squirrel-girl Jupiter and Vixen-girl Jupiter. You can speak your selection.]

The emerald haired woman cut in. "Those were the ones that the good Doctor recommended," she responded to the unasked question. "They are single Splice versions."

Makoto smiled. "Excuse me," she squeaked, before running into the other room. The little wolf-girl looked at the older woman.

The furry Senshi of Destruction sighed. "I think she's going to Splice within the next few days," she muttered.

"If not sooner," the older woman added.
