[Episode 12198] [Episode 12198]Nabiki entered the New U Salon with the free coupon promising a free 'Bimbou' makeover which she'd found in the mail along with her latest subscription. Despite her ice-queen reputation, Nabiki took great effort to keep up with the latest fashions in Vague magazine and she worked out to keep her figure. Besides which, free was free.
The 'Bimbou' stereotype wasn't well established in Japan - the word translated as 'poor' or 'destitute' (that's destitute, baka) and Nabiki figured it to be a makeover for people of limited assets. She was right, in a way.
Some time later the bell tinkled again and a forever changed Nabiki stepped onto the street. No, the blonde bimbo stereotype wasn't well established in Japan, but there was something else which the franchise had latched onto.
Nabiki's hair was bleached golden and her skin was tanned very dark, except for permanant reverse-panda (white) makeup on her lips and eyes lids. She had been put into a very short skirt and revealing clothes, all the better to flash her long legs and show off her expanded cleavage, and she walked on massively platformed 'hooker' boots that laced up to the top of her knees. Everything was brandnamed from Gucci; she had paid a lot of money to look that cheap and nasty.
Nabiki was now a Yamamba - not a canibal ghost or evil spirit, but a certain type of girl. Yamamba are outcast by mainstream Japanese society because they rebel against the formal way of doing things. It is very important for a yamamba to stand out and be different - although the cultish cliché are all the same.
Nabiki giggled as she checked her empty purse. It was going to be expensive for her to keep up with the glitz and glamour of being a Yamamba. Even her old schoolyard extortion racket wasn't going to cover it. Since it was illegal for highschool aged kids to have part time jobs, she would have to fall back on making her dates pay her way. But high-school boys wouldn't have that kind of cash, so she'd have to find herself a few ero-gigi - dirty old men.
