When a battered old leather-bound book plopped down on the pavement in front of her as she neared the end of the bridge she was crossing, Akane was understandably startled. After staring at it and blinking for a moment, she glanced around to see where it had came from. There was an alley nearby, but it seemed to be empty save a trash-can - and the book had seemed to come from above. A couple of buildings lined the street near the bridge, but all their windows were closed. Many of the Martial Artists of Nerima could have reached the roofs of the building, and tossed it down from there; but if one had, he or she was gone now. Finally, just for the heck of it, Akane looked straight up, but saw only clouds and blue sky.
As the mystery of where the Book had came from was not easily solved, Akane turned to the next question - what was the book? She crouched down and picked it up. The cover was tattered, worn, and coated with dust. Some of the dust had been wiped away, but she couldn't make out the faded symbols on the cover enough to even tell if they were letters or kanji, let alone what they might say. Opening the book, she found the title, written in bold kanji: "The Master's Way With the Opposite Gender".
If she had found this in the hands of a boy, she would have bashed first, asked questions later (if at all). However, as there was no one around, her violent impulse had no immediate outlet, and she had time to consider the possibility it might not be as bad as it sounded.
Reading the Table of Contents, and skimming through a few entries, she wasn't sure if it was not quite as bad as she thought, or far worse. It was indeed a guide to sex, but it wasn't just for boys wanting to take advantage of girls - there were plenty of things that could be used or enjoyed equally by both genders, and those that focused on the pleasures or conquest of just one gender seemed to be evenly divided between male and female. On the other hand, there were things in there far more perverted than she had ever suspected existed, as well as mind-control drugs and other things that would be immoral to use.
Her impulse to throw away or perhaps burn the book increased the more she looked at - but the heat growing in her wasn't all anger. A reasonable amount of the book was devoted to simple and benign techniques, positions, and such that could be used by consenting couples, and which while inventive and erotic, even Akane couldn't find any more perverted than sex itself. She could see herself doing such things with her future husband one day. A few of the more naughty ideas also made her breath a bit faster, but she quickly told herself it was from anger and disgust rather than interest.
It suddenly occurred to her that she was glancing through the book in the open in broad daylight, and she quickly slammed the cover shut. Panicked, she looked around to make sure there was still no one around, and breathed a sigh of relief to find that to be the case.
Now, the only question was what to do with the book. After thinking about it for a few moments, Akane decided to:
