Cons -- Genma was apparently a rather slovenly man. Well trained in his youth, but now fallen into complacency and gluttony, slowing his metabolism and hiding from even himself his own potential. If given half a chance, the man would most likely try to rob them of all their worth and flee into the night, his son in tow.
Pros -- Ranma was young, perhaps fourteen or fifteen years old, and could already surpass many martial artists twice his age, from what she could sense. There was something unusual about his golden-yellow cat’s eyes and wide grin that seemed to tickle a memory hidden in the back of her mind, but she could sense no true evil, nor malevolence from the boy.
And so, to get the son, she must accept the father as well. A double-edged sword that was, in more ways than one. If they got Ranma to accept their society and throw his lot in with them, then that would limit Genma’s chances to rob them blind and flee into he night, as his son is his legacy and most prized possession.
Turning to face the other elders, she asked them with a silent shifting of her eyes, asking for their opinion on the manner. Each of the elders in turn looked with no little pity upon Genma, but she could see by the look in their eyes that they too say the boy’s potential for greatness.
Nodding at their silent answer, she then turned to he great-granddaughter.
{Shampoo,} she spoke softly into the girl’s ear. {You said that you would allow Dowel’s challenge against you for this outsider male to be settled by an arm wrestling match… a match that we all know you have no chance in succeeding, when a match of martial prowess would show quite different odds?}
{Yes, Honored Elder,} Shampoo bowed seriously.
{You do understand that failing this challenge will mean a slight loss of face on your part, do you not?} Cologne queried.
{Some slight loss of face means nothing, if I do not have to marry… that…}
Cologne sighed, and then turned to Ranma.
{Well, I guess I will be calling you ‘son’ soon enough,} she told him. {We have but to complete the ceremonies for challenge, marriage, and adoption. Tell me, what is your name again?}
“Ranma… Ranma Cheshire…” he said with a slight bow.
{Welcome to the tribe, Ranma Cheshire.}
