He also had an old friend he was apparently engaged to who was now a digi-girl who could turn into Djinni-mon if he utilized the Rune on his hand.
"Two other forms?" Ukyo asked as she returned to Ucchan mode.
"Yes, but they'll require stressful situations for you to first access them," Umino pulled out a book and pointed at two paragraphs. "Life and death kind of thing."
"Oh," said Ukyo. So now she got a powerup, but it had to be activated by Ranma. Hmmmm.
"So what now?" Ranma asked.
"I'm outta here," said Umino. "You know how much this stuff takes out of me? Don't disturb me for at least a week, okay?" With that he turned into smoke and withdrew into the bagpipe.
"For now, I'd suggest we continue with exercise and training. Tomorrow we can move on," suggested Cologne. "I've got an idea as to some additional training we can do when we reach a certain location to the North."
Power.
That was what it came down to. Power was everything.
Those of the Dark Genie had their own agendas, their own power, their own lives. They didn't trust the others, of course. What mattered was who had the most power at the end would be the one who decided how the world itself would be shaped.
Akane Tendo frowned as she felt a presence approach her at school. Unlike those simpering chatterboxes who had been the former Akane's friends, this one bore a trace of dark power that was quite familiar to her. She snapped her fingers and the two girls with her went into "stasis mode" - their minds turned off until she deemed otherwise. Her body blurred and Dark Genie Beryl turned towards the disturbance. "Why do you bother me here?"
"Fiore's chosen host has distanced herself from him." Nabiki slinked out of the shadows of the clocktower, though if one knew to look at her own shadow, it would have betrayed her as Mistress Nine.
"I have Neptune and Uranus. You bear Pluto's Ring and she still resists your control. Venus is still out there somewhere to be claimed." Beryl pointed out. "It's too early to get as confident as you seem to be - the boy bears five of the Rings!"
"He is too young to bond completely with them, he is immature and easily misled," said Mistress Nine. "As to Pluto, I savor the battle. In the end she will come to serve me completely and without restraint. By then I may have my hands on my preferred playtoy - Saturn."
"What of the Witches? Wiseman? Or for that matter Nehelenia? If Fiore gets his chosen host, his own powers will be considerable."
Mistress Nine waved it off. "Fiore is still after Ukyo Kuonji. He'll turn the hatred and vengeance in her heart against her, then break her mind and devour her soul. Standard plan, right? Except that right now if he tries that, he'll get smeared across the Astral Plane. The Witches are pathetic in their power level. As for Wiseman, he is currently fighting the soul of his host - which has regained that stubborn streak that had previously been eliminated. Nehelenia? Nehelenia is in my pocket, even if she doesn't realize it yet."
"What of Venus?" Beryl pressed on. "If one of the others gets to her first, it will tip the balance of power away from us."
"You have two Rings. I have one. We will overcome this little setback, and then we shall see what transpires," said Mistress Nine, morphing slightly back into Nabiki Tendo. "Will your dictatorship of Earth win, or will my destruction of all life?"
"As to that, let me see what the crystal says," said Beryl, morphing back to Akane. "I have an idea that might yet free up those five Rings the boy has without either of us confronting him."
"Oh, do tell," said Nabiki.
"My plan is simple," said Akane, "and is thus:"
