Sakura was a hellraiser--pure and simple. Her father was a legendary, wandering Shotokan karate champion--her mother was an elite, globetrotting policewoman with Interpol. Growing up under the care of nannies and servants and only seeing her parents a few scattered weeks out of the year for parental contact and assorted martial arts training left their indelible mark on Sakura as she grew up to become a teenager. She became rather cold, distant, and indifferent to her parents, to others, and to the world at large. While her parents were away, Sakura would train alone, often sparring with a beautiful but sullen, nihilistic fellow schoolgirl around her age who favored a small short sword and an odd ball-and-chain contraption as weapons.
Karin was the daughter of a wealthy European industrialist. As such, she was pampered and spoiled rotten. When she got to Sakura's school, she became a rival of Sakura--a doppelganger if you will --dressing in attire closely similar to Sakura's. Over time, the rivalry grew more and more intense over time until both girls had an epic donnybrook in the school courtyard one day. The fight caused an extreme amount of property damage and mass panic to the inhabitants of the school and the surrounding area that the assistance of a regiment of JSDF soldiers was deemed necessary to bring things back under control. At battle's end, both girls stood battered and bloody facing each other. They gave each other a bloodstained smile and shook hands--thus becoming friends and equals in the art of fighting. A little later, Karin's father sent a check to the Japanese government to cover the damages caused by her daughter and Sakura.
A few months later, Cammy met Sakura and Karin and joined the group. Cammy was a military otaku--favoring the dress and demeanor of a common enlisted JSDF soldier. At the time, it was all show--nothing more than cosplaying. After quite some time spent in the company of Sakura and Karin and learning martial arts from them, her skills at hand-to-hand combat rose to match theirs. As a result, she adopted the dress of a soldier in the elite special forces: a close-fitting bodysuit with a small, odd-looking necktie; combat boots that went up to her knees, streaks of camouflage streaked tastefully on her thighs and face, and a raspberry-colored beret on her head. Every once in a while, she would disappear from the group and return a few weeks later. When asked about it by the others, Cammy simply said she was 'on maneuvers'.
About a year after that, Jill joined the other three girls. She was a dropout of the school's military training program. This was due to intermittent nightmares she had involving all sorts of supernatural creatures and whatnot. After several months in the company of Sakura, Karin, and Cammy, Jill overcame her problems and became an accomplished martial artist to complement her skills with assorted ranged weapons such as guns, RPGs, spears, and compound bow and arrows.
At this point, the four girls grew bored of school and basically dropped out. To fill the hours not spent in school, the four hung out in various places like parks, shopping malls, and sporting stadiums--breaking into them if need be and taking whatever they needed or wanted at all times. Their crimes became legion yet remained petty with no real lasting harm done. Any and all objections and protests by the local government, law enforcement, emergency services, and the public at large were silenced by hefty, generous checks sent out to all the offended parties by Karin's father on behalf of his wayward daughter and her three delinquent friends.
Sakura downed the last of her juiceplus and placed the empty glass on the tray next to her held by a Servbot, one of a group of small robots that milled about the Karaba Juicebar as waiters. As the Servbot walked off with the tray, Sakura stood up and announced to her friends: "Drink up, o my sisters! For the night 'tis young and ripe for mischief! We must be off to experience it in all its forbidden fullness, posthaste!". Sakura paused to put on her jPod and fiddle with device's controls. Within seconds, her most favorite music piece filled her ears and stimulated her musical sensibilites with rapt devotion: Requiem by Shoji Yamashiro as performed by Geinoh Yamashirogumi.
The others finished their drinks, stood up, and filed out of the Karaba Juicebar behind their leader....
