When he realized that, he sighed and turned to look over the room that he was in. The rustic look of the place was different than some of the homes that he'd stayed in, and the privacy he had was much different than the bunks that had been in just about every Pokemon Center that he'd been in. And he was inside, which was different than those years of camping out under the stars.
That actually was part of the problem. Laying there, he could see that this was not his space. It wasn't even someone else's, as it was decorated without any personal effects what so ever. Sure, there was a picture on the wall, and some knickknacks on the shelf, but they weren't something that someone had brought home for themselves, which was exactly his problem. He had so many things that he'd collected over the years besides Pokemon, that he should be able to be surrounded by all the stuff, from the little pieces of junk that he'd brought on a whim, to the various trophies that he'd won over the years. Instead, they were all in his bedroom at his mother's house, and that room still had the look it had when he was ten.
Yet, he couldn't blame his current demeanor on that. After all, it was only a symptom of the real problem. What did someone do after they'd accomplished their dreams? He'd done it all, from league championships to the Battle Frontier, to the various contests, and had seen so much that he wasn't quite certain what he should do. Hopefully, Brock's plan would work, seeing as, for the first time in his life, he had his future in front of him, and no plan for what to do with it. There were just so many possibilities, and he hadn't ever really considered any one of them in any detail before.
"Pika?" commented the only other occupant of the room.
Ash turned to face Pikachu and gave a wry smile. "Couldn't sleep either, could you?"
"Chu...." the electric type replied, shaking its head.
"Me too. I know that this shouldn't bother me so much, but I'm actually realizing that we've got years left."
"Ka-chu."
"Of course you know, buddy. But we've been right in the middle of it. Maybe Brock's plan will work. If nothing else, it'll give me time to think and check out what could be what I'd like to go on to."
"Pika."
"Exactly. I do have to wonder though. Will Misty have an idea for us? Heck, what will she think about this? I do wonder what she's looking forward to. I mean, her sisters are there to run the gym, and all. Maybe she's looking for a boyfriend or something. Someone to settle down with."
That idea seemed to concern Pikachu, as it frowned thoughtfully. "Pika pika...."
"Well, a lot of people are probably doing that. I did tease Max about it. And I've met so many people, a lot of whom are girls. Remember how Mom wondered why I didn't try looking for a date for with one of them."
"Pika!"
"Go ahead and laugh," Ash replied as he flopped onto his back and put his hands behind his head. "It was funny, wasn't it? But now.... It might be nice to try and see if I could get one for myself."
"Pika pikachu."
"Hey, I could always try to help Brock with that. Find him a girl of his own."
"Pika."
"He'd love that, wouldn't he? But me? I don't know what I want."
The little yellow rodent patted its trainer on the cheek and the two of them closed their eyes to go to sleep, while:
