Firefly scrunched her eyes closed just as the lead skelleton clawed passed her defenses.   Just one more hit and her life meter would be emptied.   There was little she could do to stop it and she didn’t want to watch the end; it was always so disorientating.   Plus, having realistically-rendered skulls learing in her face was a more than a bit unnerving for her.   Thus she only heard the blade rip through bone and … wait– Blade?

She cautiously popped open her eyes in time to witness a tall bishonen figure wielding a heavy blade through the last of the skeletons.   As he relaxed and looked around, she squealed and rushed up to hug him.   “Yay, Pappa!   I was so scared.”

He sighed and patted her head.   “What have I told you about staying up late and playing these games?   If you have nightmares because of this, your Momma Mi…”

“Awe, Poppa, come on.   I’m not a little kid anymore,” interjected Firefly with exasperation, then she admitted, “I just don’t like undead types, ’sall.   The graphics are really creepy.”

“Right,” sighed her Pappa with a tone of disbelief.   “So who’s your dead friend here?”

“That’s Crimson,” exclaimed Firefly as she rushed over to check her new friend.   “He’s a total newbie I was showing around and –yah!– it just so happens that he’s not all dead, just mostly dead.”

“Oh?   What’s the difference?”

“There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead,” explained Firefly.   “Mostly dead is slightly alive, so I can still heal him, but my level’s not high enough to raise all dead.   If he were all dead there would be only one thing to do.”

“And what’s that?”

“Go through his inventory for loot items and wait for him to restart the game,’ sniffed Firefly derisively.   “I don’t think he’s even saved his character once yet.”

“Well, you better bring him back before he get’s bored and logs off,” her Poppa advised in an ‘I want to have a word with him’ tone of voice.   “I want to meet the boy who’s been keeping my girl up late at nights.”

“Oh, Pappa!” exclaimed an exasperated Firefly.   “It’s not like that.   We only just met!”   She bent over her new friend and began to cast, but paused to glared up at the Heavy Blade, “and don’t you go and make him think I’m a little girl.”

“But you will always be my little…”

“Poppa!”

“Wassup?” demanded Crimson as the terrible musak ended and he found that he could move once more.

“Welcome back to the land of the living,” quipped Firefly.   “Sorry for taking so long to revive you but Poppa here…”

“Just saved your characters’ bits.   My username”s Lord Azure of the Distant Sky, by the way.”

“Uh, please ta metcha,” responded a confussed Crimson.   “What’s going on?”

“Well, little H– Firefly here’s got an exam coming up and needs her sleep.   She hasn’t been responding to her emails so her momma sent me in to pull her out of the game.”

“A heh!” Firefly coughed.   “Sorry Crimson, I guess I gotta log off now.   Hey, let’s exchange email addresses so we can play together latter!”
