Homecoming: There Goes The Neighborhood [Episode 127096]

by Archangel Bloodraven, Lord of Bloodraven Keep

"Light Gate, this is awesome!" Spike crowed as the chopper skimmed over the sands. "Can you go faster?"

"I can, but I don't want to leave Bumblebee in the dust. You never know what nasty surprises you can encounter out in the field."

Seconds later laser fire lanced past the new Cybertronian's nose.

"See what I mean?" Light Gate said,  twisting and weaving around the laser fire from the Decepticon fighters. "Light Gate to Prime. I got 'con jets on my tail and they're trying to shoot it off, and it looks like 'Bee's got his hands full with the Constructicons. Any chance of getting some backup out here?"

"I'm sending Blaster, the Dinobots and the Aerialbots. Can you hold out until then?"

"I guess I'll have to. But you tell Blaster honey and Grimmy neechan to hurry up before I get scrapped! Light Gate out."

"Blaster honey?" Spike giggled as the swift helicopter dove low, rotors kicking up sand everywhere.

"Can it, kid!" Gate growled throwing herself hard to one side as Starscream's lasers tore up the sand where she had been moments earlier. "Or else neither of us will live to see our next birthday. I'm gonna need something to even the odds, but what?"

"What's that, up ahead on the right?" Spike asked, pointing to the blue and white bird transformer ahead of them.

"Eagle Eye!" Light Gate cried happily, swooping towards the cassette 'bot.  "He may just keep us in one piece to see the sunset tonight. LIGHT GATE, POWER LINK!"

Spike looked on as Eagle Eye folded himself into a small cube which attached to Light Gate's underbelly. "What  just happened?" He asked as number of scanners kicked into overdrive.

The Comanche was silent for a moment as she assimilated the new information before she answered. "Eagle Eye is a special kind of transformer called a Minicon. These smaller robots can power link with an Autobot or Decepticon in their world to unlock additional capabilities. I was built with these capabilities in mind, and  Blaster and Grimlock were also modified to make use of this technology. Eagle Eye expands my sensor capabilities. Hopefully it'll be enough to keep out of the line of fire."

The battle 'copter zigged and zagged, narrowly dodging the incoming blasts. "Damn! I'm just too slow like this to stage a counterattack. Hang on, Spike!" She said, pulling up and climbing into the glare of the sun.

"Miserable Autobot scum! You cannot escape Starscream!"

"Who ever said I was trying to escape, calculator brains?" Light Gate laughed as a F-22 Raptor dove out of the sun, firing into the horde of jets. "I just needed to change into something a little more comfortable 'fore I slag you jerks!"

"She's a triple changer!" Starscream shouted as the jet banked hard to the left, leaving a barrage of holes in his wing and fuselage.

"No wonder you're the smart one." Light Gate laughed, as she flew in a wide arc. "I'm honestly surprised you're not grounded with that much damage."

"Don't just stand there!" Starscream shrieked. "Get that accursed autobot!"

"You can take them all, can't you, Light Gate?" Spike asked from the cockpit.

"Dunno, kid. I'm a little outnumbered here, and I've used up the element of surprise." The new fighter replied "But I didn't survive this long just to get scrapped by these pansies. Hang on!" With those words, she shot forward and slipped under the the cluster of fighter jets. "Hey Star Scrap!  Didn't I revoke your flying rights?" Light Gate called releasing another barrage into his badly damaged side, forcing him to the ground.

"It's StarSCREAM, you insufferable Autobot! Thundercracker, Dirge, Ramjet, Thrust, Skywarp, CRUSH HER!"

"Skywarp's here? So that's what that feeling is. This should be fun." She mused with an almost evil glee. "Okay Spike. What we've got here is a melee combat situation. What do you do?"

"Um... Keep moving... you're doing pretty good with that... make your shots count.... Oh yeah! Use their own numbers against them! The more they shoot down the less you have to!"

"Smart kid. Hold tight." She said diving and twisting among the Decepticon seekers. Sparing a scanner to check on Bumblebee, she found him running circles around the larger, slower constructions vehicles. "Another fun lesson, most melee mobs have only a loose bonding structure. Sow discord among their ranks and watch them come apart at the seam."

To illustrate her point, Light Gate waited until Thundercracker open fire, then dove quickly allowing him to blast Thrust out of the sky. Within seconds the com channels were filled with angry chatter. "And the most important thing to know about a melee battle..."

"Did somebody call for air support?" Slingshot crowed, diving out of the clouds with the other Aerialbots close behind with their lasers blasting.

"Know when to get the fuck out of the way." With those words she teleported a few miles above the thorough bashing of the Decepticon jets. Seconds later a second warp field dissipated to reveal Skywarp.

"I can feel you." He said simply, circling the Autobot jet.

"So can I." Light Gate said, circling as well. "It's like looking in a mirror. Don't suppose you'd be willing to change sides?"

"I would never betray Megatron. However, a skilled warrior such as yourself would be welcome within the ranks of the Decepticons."

"Destroying the planet goes against everything I believe in. Sorry."

"Then it seems we are destined to battle, sister."

"So it seems, brother." Light Gate said, sadly charging her weapons as Skywarp did the same.

As if on some silent signal both jets winked out of existence only to reappear elsewhere and open fire on each other, score a few superficial hits, and then teleport again. This continued for some time before Light Gate noticed that Skywarp's teleports were becoming infrequent and sloppy.

"He's running out of power!" Spike said anxiously. "You should finish him now!"

Light Gate considered her adversary and his erratic flight path. "No. It's not an honorable victory if your opponent cannot present a defense."

"But he's a Decepticon!"

"And he's also a warrior. He would do the same for me. Besides, we've got bigger problems." She said diving back towards the battlefield.

"Constructicons! Merge into Devastator!" Scrapper commanded.

"Oh man! What are we gonna do?" Spike asked.

"There's still a chance." Light Gate said calmly. "Devastator is most vulnerable where Hook and Long Haul form his torso. If I can hit him there while they're combining I might be able to break them apart."

"And if you fail?"

"Then we need to shake him apart. Sonics are Blaster's specialty, not mine. Let's just hope this works." She wheeled around, took careful aim and fired.

The combined Decepticon rocked heavily, but did not fall. Light Gate swore softly as she pulled away.
