Tell me your story.
The note, as innocent as it was enigmatic, was left by my bedside with a parchment wrapped package.
At this point, I'm not sure what I find more disturbing, the fact that someone outside of my small inner circle knows of this place, or that someone managed to invade deepest inner sanctum as I slept, leave this enigma, and depart again, unnoticed even by my keen senses.
My first thought is of someone from my past, though it is highly unlikely. Seven decades have passed since I gave my mortality to my vampiric sire. Most of those who knew me then would be old and gray now, and more than likely incapable of entering my most private place unnoticed.
My sire enters now, bringing the one other I trust with the secret of this place. I can still remember my surprise when she revealed herself to me. She was certainly not one I would have suspected of being an immortal creature of the night.
I gaze at her companion, another from my past, held apart from the ravages of time for a while by the gift of my blood. Even now, though, I could see laugh lines around her eyes and strands of silver in her hair, proof that none can escape the predator of time.
"I give you my word, I had no part in this." My sire said as I explained what happened and showed her the package. We examined the enigmatic parcel with all of our vampiric senses and only when we agreed on it's benevolence did I open my furtive bequest. Inside was a blank journal, bound in the finest leather.
Tell me your story. The note implored silently from where it lay.
"What would it hurt?" My sire asked. "If he wanted to kill you, he's already lost the opportunity."
"I concur, old friend. There is much we don't know about your time since your turning." My companion said, a rare smile gracing her lips.
I nodded and picked up a fine tipped pen.
