Shaman Fight: Meanwhile in the Desert... [Episode 128510]

by The Insane Hiker

Currently in the desert, a band of three was having a bit of trouble; namely their radiator decided that it was time for a siesta. Sitting down outside the roasting cab of the depression-era jalopy that one of their number managed to somewhat restore from various parts in a junkyard two states back, was a silver-haired youth taking off his leather jacket to use as a sunshade.

However despite his efforts the heat was getting to him, “Tell me again Ed, why didn’t you choose to transmute one of the newer models back to semi-working order instead of this 1960s piece of scrap iron, I swear that I saw a surplus humvee in that yard.”

Looking out from under the hood the focus of his conversation a blonde, teen with gold-eyes and a visible metal prosthetic, right-arm looked at his traveling companion as if he had grown a second head, “Well Haru, if you want a budget related answer, the man paid us fifty bucks to haul away this pick-up; while he would have charged us over three-grand for the hummer. If you want the practical answer, I wanted to make sure I could fix our purchase with my alchemy; and any vehicles made with computorized systems well I can fix the parts, but the programming would be long gone. Also it’s not my fault that this engine runs so hot that it overheats every fifty miles.”

In the bed of the pickup an old suit of armor turned its head as if trying to ignore the arguing, instead concentrating on petting the strange kirin-horned, blue and white-fured dog sitting on the bunched-up cloth in its lap. Fifteen feet from the jalopy, a young man in a well-worn trench coat scanned the horizon, “Hold up you two, Kir’s coming in for a landing.” With Jing holding out his arm to serve as a perch the avian familiar came in for a landing, “Well Kir, how far away is the closest group?

Huffing to catch its breath the black bird filled his companions in, “Well near as I can tell Vash Saverem’s group just caught up with Yoh Asakura’s team about two miles as my Aunt Tilly flies.”

Somewhat over his heatstroke Haru went in for the verbal jab, “Don’t you mean as you fly Kir, you are a crow after all?”

Grinning at the setup Haru fell for Kir continued, “Yeah, but my Aunt Tilly can’t fly for half-a-mile without having to stop and hit the sauce.”

Slamming them trunk lid down, Ed decided to call an end to this farce; “Okay the truck should be fixed; now lets catch-up to Vash and make the trade so that we’ll be completely ready for round two.”

Jing's crow familiar flew into the clunker to join him, and proceeded to give his partner his peace of mind, “I still don’t see why we couldn’t have hung around that orphanage for a few more days Jing, those kids looked so lonely.”

Stepping into the passengers seat, Ed couldn't help but get a jab in at the bird, “Yeah Kir, and a suppose that Rusyuna’s oh-so comfy hugs had nothing to do with it.”

As the avian began to innocently whistle Haru stepped into the driver's seat and the trio started off to their rendezvous, “Come on Kir, remember she and the other's were counting on us getting the items to Vash.”
