Shinji stared at his empty hand stupidly for a long moment. he was pretty sure he had been holding a phone a moment ago. Finally he took note of his surroundings. He was standing in someone’s room and a girl that was a few years older than him was staring at him pretty hard.
Taking all that into account Shinji decided to voice his confusion the most eloquent way he could. "I...How...What..."
Before he could attempt to form any more words a small popping sound announced Mihoshi's arrival.
Of course, Mihoshi being the ditzy but well meaning Djinn that she was, saw his lost expression and proceeded to give the confused boy a bear hug. "Oh my poor darling! Don't worry; I'm here to explain everything to you!"
Naturally, having a gorgeous blonde in almost no clothing to speak of pressed up to him, did not help to make Shinji anymore coherent. Nabiki, who was used to unusual happenings finally got over her shock and gave Mihoshi a sharp look. "What the hell did you do?"
"Oh right, I need to explain" said Mihoshi and broke her hug, instead holding Shinji at arms length now. "Ok Shinji, here is what happened. Basically someone made a wish to change places with you, so you're now stuck here for the time being. Nabiki here will be the only person to know you're not the person you're supposed to be, namely one Shinji Saotome who changes into a girl and all that. You can always ask her for help. Due to certain circumstances I also had to exchange part of your soul with Ranma's, but you don't have to worry about that; In fact, that might actually help you to survive more than one day here. Any questions?"
Shinji's only reaction was to stare at her
"Well, seems like you don't have any. I'll be on my way then. I'm sure you'll have fun."
One puff of smoke later Nabiki and Shinji were once again alone
"Is it ok for me to faint now?"
"Sure, knock yourself out."
THUD
-----------
For Nabiki the sound of Shinji’s body striking the floor was the trigger for getting her out of her stupor. Nabiki had always prided herself on her ability to take control of every situation. In fact, it was something of an unwritten law in her life. Now there was an exception to that law.
That fact produced a mix of emotions, none of which were good. She was disappointed in herself for not recognizing the Djinn for the ditz she obviously was. She was angry at the Djin and she was confused over the fact that an anime character was currently resting on her floor.
The most predominant emotions were fear and guilt, though. While Shinji did not have a rosy live in the Manga, Nabiki feared he would not live for very long at all the way things stood in Ranma’s life right now.
Get a grip girl. You’re Nabiki Tendo! Something like a little loss of control can be dealt with. She thought to herself angrily and willed herself to calm down. The question is, what am I going about this mess?
No answer readily apparent, aside from making sure no one killed Shinji, Nabiki did the first thing that came to mind and picked up a random volume of the Manga that had spawned her current guest to kill the some time until he woke up.
What the hell? Needless to say finding out the volume she was holding contained only empty pages did nothing to calm her down. I just know has something to do with that stupid wish!
On a hunch she pulled the first volume from the shelf and opened it. Surprisingly the pages were filled over halfway through, filled with a storyline that featured a certain pigtailed boy.
After reading for about 10 minutes she had skimmed over the Manga and could not help but smile: the last pages had shown how Ranma had taken Misato into a headlock when she disturbed his sleep. I think Saotome may be more than this Manga can handle.
-------------------
Another ten minutes later Nabiki was bored out of her mind, wondering when Shinji would finally wake up. After finishing the Manga she had waited with baited breath for new pages to appear, but while she could see those changing, it took a long time.
After that it had not taken Nabiki very long to realize that Shinji was in no way fit to survive Ranma’s role for even one day. Heck, the boy was so scrawny she hadn’t had any trouble heaving him onto her bed so he lay a little more comfortable. No way could he deal with the likes of Ryuoga and Mousse or even his newly acquired fiancées.
In the end, these facts made for a very clear cut course of action: She had to make it clear to everyone who knew Shinji, that he was not the person, they thought him to be and use any means necessary to get her point across before someone used violence. It also meant she had to be with Shinji 24 hours a day until even Ryoga got the story I don’t think I have ever hatched a plan like this. She thought, knowing that it sounded a lot simpler than it would truly be and that disaster was almost guaranteed.
She was still listing all the things that could go wrong in her head, when Shinji announced his waking with a groan.
