Ami brushed her bangs out of her face. "I've had enough excitement for one day. See ya."
Usagi blinked as she and the others powered down. "What does that mean?"
"It means I'm going home, to spend some time with my mother." Ami shrugged.
"But we have so many questions!" Minako exclaimed.
"Where'd you learn to fight like that?" Makoto gushed. "Can we spar sometime?"
"Where did you get the kick ass armor and crystal?" Hotaru asked, snapping out of her kiss induced daze.
Haruka sputtered. "H-H-Hot-t-taru! W-w-watch your m-m-mouth!" She gasped around her chattering teeth.
"You better get her into a hot bath." Ami commented offhandedly. "The Mercury Flash Freeze is bitter cold."
"I n-n-noticed." She spat bitterly.
"Where did you learn to use a sword like that?" Setsuna asked, sincerely interested.
"What's the deal with you and Ice? How did you do that thing with your clothes? Are you still going to school? Are you still going to be a Sailor?" Usagi pelted the young genius with questions.
"Like I said, I've had my fun. I'm going home. I haven't seen my mother in twenty five years."
"But you haven't seen us in twenty five years either." Minako reminded her. "Besides, there's one of you and eight of us, and we've got you surrounded."
"Looks that way doesn't it?" Ami said taking a glance at the loose circle the girls had formed. "But I've learned two things from my little trip. Looks can be deceiving."
"That's one." Mina said. "What's the other?"
Ami paused and gazed upwards. "There's always a way out." She smiled slightly as she bent at the knees and shot off the ground and kicked off two buildings and landed on the roof of a third. "Why don't you take this time to think about what happened today. I for one have to get back to my mother, and my boyfriend." Flashing a grin, she bowed and vanished.
The civilian senshi stared for a long while after Ami vanished before the inevitable happened.
"Her..." Makoto murmured.
"BOYFRIEND!" Minako screeched. "How did that egghead get a boyfriend before me? I'm the Senshi of Love, not her!"
"Easy there Minako." Rei said. "Green isn't your color."
"Green? What are you talking about Rei? I'm not green."
"You sure are." Rei countered. "Green with envy."
Minako just glared and ignored her. "Come on. If we hurry we can catch her at the fire escape."
"No." Hotaru said. "Haruka papa has to get warmed up and we all need to to think about this new Mercury and Sol. We three are going home and you should too."
"I'm going after her." Minako insisted.
Usagi sighed and reached out, grabbing Minako by the ear and dragging the other blonde down the street. "We're going back to the shrine to talk about this." The moon princess nodded firmly as the others sweat dropped and followed them.
Ami gazed down from her hiding place and chuckled. "You'll get your answers soon enough, my little moon. Just wait a bit longer." With that she vaulted off the roof and strolled off through the nearby park, only to hear a faint melody. It took her a moment to realize the melody was coming from within her.
"Ice, what are you up to?" She mused sitting under a tree and closing her eyes, turning into herself.
In her minds eye, she found herself in a familiar place. "Ice? Where are you?"
In the middle of the empty space sat a box. The odd part was the box was... singing.
"I'ma gonna wrap myself in paper, I'ma gonna dab myself with glue. Stick some stamps on the top of my head. I'ma gonna mail myself to you."
Ami knelt by the box and tipped her head to one side. "Ice, what on earth are you doing?"
As Ami watched two chubby legs poked out of the bottom the box, followed by an arm popping out a small hole on each side of the box. Finally a head with a familiar face popped out to reveal a Chibi Ami. "I'm just bein' a little silly."
"I can see that." Ami said with a smile as she scooped the little girl up into her arms. "But why do you feel the need to mail yourself anywhere?"
"Well, I lost everything I held dear before I met you. When we left my world, I was a little sad that I leaving those I cared about behind, but there wasn't anything I could do to help them, but I could help you. After we had traveled so long and seen so much I thought we'd never get home. I just..."
"What is it, Ice Chan?" Ami asked, rocking the smaller girl to her.
"I just wished it was that easy. I wished we could just climb in a mailbox and send ourselves home. Not just you and me, but all of us. Ken and Rikku carry their scars on the outside but I bear scars just as deep inside too. I wanted all the hurting to stop. I wanted the pain to go away. I wanted a mother to tuck us in at night. I wanted friends we could go to the arcade with."
"You wanted a normal life. I can understand that, and now that we're home, I think it may finally be a return to normalcy." Ami said, kissing the small girl on the top of her head. "For both of us."
Ami's internal focus was shattered by a shrill sound. Blinking and stretching she looked down at her communicator watch. Pretty nice of Rikku to include a cell phone function in these things. "Hello?"
"Hi Ami. It's mom. Have you finished your business with your friends?"
Ami glanced quickly around the abandoned park. "Yes I have. For now. I think I left them with more questions than answers though." She giggled.
"Well, how soon are you coming home. I'd like to talk you about these comics under your mattress."
"Comics?" Ami frowned in puzzlement. "What comics?"
"The very graphic hentai doujinshi collection. I trust you remember those."
Ami blushed hotly. "Oh those! I know I told you no more secrets and I really was going to tell you-"
"Ami, hush. I understand you're an educated girl and you're curious about everything, but you've got so much dirty manga under there, I'm surprised you don't have a boyfriend yet."
Ami's blush reached critical mass. "I'm on my way home momma, see ya soon. Bye!"
And what's this? Ice chuckled silently. Is my Ami a closet hentai?
Hush you. Ami replied coolly. I keep them under my mattress. With that Ami got to her feet and walked away singing softly to herself and Ice.
"I'ma gonna wrap myself in paper, I'ma gonna dab myself with glue..."
