“This little number is a tweaked version of the M9 tranquillizer gun.” The butler explained as he held up the weapon. “Tweaked as in instead of the normal tranquillizer rounds, it has been modified to carry special bullets that tranquillize super nature and undead creatures. Also its suppressor has been modified to handle the custom bullets without causing deterioration.”
”How does it do that?” Victoria asked.
“A special solution made of minced garlic, chloroform, and trace silver and mercury.” He smiled as he continued; “Just enough to put a vampire, werewolf or ghoul out cold without killing them.”
“Why would I need a tranq gun anyway?”
”Because in a stealth mission, you cannot be seen or detected and if you are often times knocking out a guard and setting them up in a position that makes them believe they simply nodded off rather than killing them, often times more than not keeps your presence unknown to the enemy. Also as you know some undead when they are killed with silver…give off quite a show of gore and we can’t give the enemy any large indications of an intrusion.”
Victoria’s lips pursed a little. “I guess that makes sense.”
”Next is a modified Beretta .45 modified to carry silver bullets, also equipped with a suppressor for those instances where you have no choice but to engage in lethal combat.” He placed the gun down and picked up a knife; unsheathing the blade it was revealed to be made of silver. “For when you are in close quarters combat and a gun, a knife can prove much more useful than a gun, or so said a woman I admired and respected once said. So thus you’ll be issued one.”
Victoria raised an eyebrow. “Who was this woman you speak of?”
Walter chuckled softly as he put down the knife. “I forgot her real name, but the code name she rightfully earned after the end of WWII was The Boss. She not only helped the Allies achieve victory in WWII, but she also more or less founded the basics of close-quarters-combat that all military and special operations units adopt to this day.”
”The Boss…that name sounds familiar.” Victoria tapped her chin. Why did it have a familiar ring to it?
“I’m sure you’ll remember in time.” Walter smiled. “Now onto the equipment, you’ll be issued a gas-mask incase they employ chemical warfare; and a Codec radio device so we can keep in contact, and a ration kit of four chilled medical blood packs.”
Moving down to the end of the table Walter held up a pitch black suit. “And this will be your stealth infiltration attire, or a “sneaking suit” as the espionage business refers to this type of uniform.” Setting the suit down Walter continued. “Normally we’d equip the operative with thermal and night vision goggles but with your vampire abilities you won’t need them. Also if you need better weapons you will have to acquire them on your own as Lady Integra informed during the mission briefing.”
Nodding the police girl sighed. “…Walter why am I being sent on such an important mission alone?”
The butler simply smiled. “Maybe Your Master and Lady Integra feel you’re up to this sort of task and your knowledge of Metal Gear could be an asset to the mission objective.”
“Maybe, but I’m not as good as Master, nor am I exactly…an infiltration specialist you’d probably be better off hiring Solid Snake himself to do it.”
”A soldier doubting ones self is a surefire way to bring a mission to a hasty end.” Walter replied sagely. “Regardless of the why’s you have been chosen for the mission, and be it for Queen and Country, the honor of the Hellsing organization, or for your own reasons, you must complete it. We must seize the opportunity while it still stands to investigate Millennium’s Metal Gear project and destroy it before they can utilize such a weapon to bring upon the ruin of the world.”
Gulping, Victoria nodded, after all that she’d be a bloody ass to wimp out of the mission now.
Meanwhile at an undisclosed location:
”VAMPIRES?! WEREWOLVES?! UNDEAD?! YOU MEAN WE’RE DEALING WITH HONEST-TO-GOD SUPERNATURE SHIT HERE?!”
”Otacon calm the hell down! Sheesh my ears are gonna explode.” Snake winced as he checked the “care package” Hellboy had given him.
“Snake, I can deal with genetically enhanced humans, cyborgs, or people with super powers like ESP, uncanny marksmanship, or whatever; but vampires?!” The former engineer exclaimed. “Snake I reaaaaally have a bad feeling about this now.”
“Too late, we already made travel arrangements to South America, and I don’t want to have wasted Clark or Hellboy’s time with getting the info and equipment for this op.” Snake replied in his “we’re doing this so quite whining” tone.
“Alright, but let it be known I strongly advised against this.”
“Advice noted, and ignored.” Snake replied as he was busy unpacking the equipment in his care package from his demonic pal.
“So…what did Hellboy give you?”
”Some silver bullets, silver throwing spikes, a silver knife; some sorta masking agent to apply to my sneaking suit so they can’t smell me as well. And last but not least flash bangs.” Snake answered.
“The silver I get, but flash bangs?”
”The best undead variant of a stun grenade according to the Jersey Devil,” Snake chuckled. “It’ll blind em’ worse than a mess of bats.”
Otacon rubbed the bridge of his nose. “I see…Snake you do realize this is probably infinitely more dangerous than pervious ops because we’re dealing with a situation beyond our element here.”
”Yep, but if they got a Metal Gear it makes no diff. We have to destroy it before they use it to start WWIII.”
“I told Mei Ling and Meryl about this op, minus the undead part since I didn’t know at the time and they object to it as well.”
Snake groaned, he just HAD to bring the women into this. “Look Otacon, I don’t like it either, not one damn bit, but I’d rather its me going in there than anyone else, alone. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I let them, or even you get hurt or killed in my personal war with Metal Gear.”
”It’s not personal anymore Snake, all of us…the entire world is now involved now since Ocelot spread Rex’s data on the Black Market. I built Rex, Meryl and Mei Ling were involved in the Shadow Moses incident. We all feel a part of the entire Metal Gear curse…that’s why we’ve risked ourselves being branded as terrorists and traitors to help you Snake, because we’ve got our own reasons to see Metal Gear gone for good, and most of all we believe in you.”
Snake looked up at Otacon, giving the former Armstech engineer a thoughtful glance. “…I didn’t ask any of you to join me in my crusade ya’know.” He said that in his usual gruff manner, but he held a smirk that was his way of conveying he appreciated they all stood by him and trusted him that much.
“Because you’re too damn stubborn to ask for help,” Otacon chuckled now that the mood was lightened. “Now let’s get you set up to fight some undead.”
