Ethsharitic Ranma - B Side: Spell It Again, Sam... [Episode 132556]

by Kender

"Oh?" Garson asked with interest tinging his voice, "What sort of end are we discussing here? One in which everyone dies, loses everything or gets what they want in a way that hurts them?"

"Well... There's this ceremony, ritual or somethin' at the end where every human bein' gets turned inta this thick red ooze 'cause some old idiots wanted ta make everyone inta one mind."

"Now, that is... not good."

"You're tellin' me. And that's after they got screwed over somehow, like with family dyin' and gettin' manipulated and stuff... But I don't know it all 'cause I didn't see it all."

"Well, what you said is quite enough."

Froderick nodded. "That is true, and not something to go through."

"Too true... It does make things a bit easier, at least from one standpoint."

"How did you decide that, for seeing it leaves me flat."

"It's simple. This spell has given them another life, though its not really them. But the idea still holds," the other wizard replied.

"And it leaves them as my maids," the pigtailed boy commented, "That's supposed to be 'better'?"

"Yes, it is. Think of it this way. You've created a life for the three you have created where they won't end up like that. For them, this life has to be a lot better than that reality. Which means that there is one of each of them in an existence where they won't become 'ooze', as you put it."

"Yeah... I can see that..."

"And are they angry, sad or frustrated with their... 'positions'? You know they're not," Garson reminded him.

"Of course. They keep on tryin' ta get in my pants!"

"But is this life really hurting them?"

"Not really... I guess. But ya really think that they'll be fine as maids that do whatever I tell them?"

"They'll be happy, and perhaps later on we can find a way to give them more choices."

That made Ranma blink. "Oh. So ya are sayin' that they could get their own lives?"

"Perhaps, but that's neither here nor there. They are already set as your utterly loyal maids."

"Then what's with the speech?"

Garson stroked his beard. "I want you to try the spell again."

"What? Why?"

"Mainly because I want to make sure that I have it all down. And to see any possible future variation that might come off of it."

"Huh? How's that gonna help?"

"First off, we want to know all that we can about the spell before we handle it. And second, we'll want to be able to recognise the signs that someone's either trying it, or is going to stumble onto something similar."

"Ah, okay..."

"So, you'll do it?"

"Do I haveta?"

"It might just be for the best. And think of it this way, you could create another of those girls so that there would be one of her that doesn't end up in that mess you described."

"That might be nice... It'd still give me another maid though."

"It's all that we can do. At least they'll be happy maids. And you can try your spell again before it's stuck in discussion. Once that happens, you'll never get to perfect it, never mind actually getting any more maids."

Growling under his breath, the pigtailed boy scowled. "Alright already..."

"Good. And since we don't have much time..."

"Yeah, yeah..." With a constant mutter going, Ranma moved around and collected what he'd need for the spell. It was like second nature, as his familiarity with them had come from his repeated spell castings, and the contemplation of the errors he'd done when he'd been doing so. Then came the spell itself, and started the weaving of the magic into the paths that it should take. He worked as best he could, letting the mist concentrate into the humanoid form that he was seeing. Slowly the shape took on a solidity, and all too soon, the three of them were facing:
