The first space ships that had been build under the surveillance of the United Nations had been very much influenced by the Science Fiction of that time. The first two space ships could have been carbon copies of the space ship from 'Forbidden Planet'. But everyone knew that it had in fact been partly influenced by the Aliens star ship that had brought the alien girls to Earth, more or less a 'flying saucer' with a pyramid through the middle.
Space had become crowded quite fast and more and more of the 'flying saucers' had been build becoming the only design that was build. Space Stations were build and all of them looked like big wheels in space.
In 1965 men landed on the Moon and just a year later on Mars. Stations on the Moon and Mars were established a short time later. The Colonization of space and the fact that alien life existed outside of Earth brought mankind closer together.
As the Saotomes came into this reality, colonies existed on Moon, Mars, Asteroids and free floating stations throughout the solar system. And the United Nations had finally figured out how to build their own Faster Than Light Engine, testing it in unmanned probes before building the first star ship. The first ship to leave the solar system and reach out into the galaxy.

Genma didn't have the will to be awed by the more than one kilometer diameter 'flying saucer' that hovered over the John F. Kennedy Space Port. Ranma on the other side just stared with his mouth wide open at the giant chrome glistening discus.
Gemna frowned as he saw his son gwaking at the starship, ignoring the gentle hum coming from the giant counter rotating sections of the ships hull, creating counter gravity to hold the largest ever build human ship afloat.
"Stupid boy," he muttered and whacked Ranma over the head, knocking him out.
He grabbed his son and hid between the cargo containers that were prepared to be brought into the large ship with the name of Pioneer.

"Increase counter grav rotation," Pioneers captain said and smiled.
"Counter grav rotation increasing. Total gravity annihilation. Ready for lift of."
"Bring her up smooth."
Slowly the large star ship floated up from the landing field of John F. Kennedy Space Port. She was lifting up slowly because if she went up faster she would create hurricane like movements of air and large parts of the landscape would be destroyed by it.
"Pitch to 45 degrees."
She slowly pitched upwards, putting her narrow side towards space and the giant engines of Pioneer started to accelerate her into space, the atmosphere streaming around the sharp edge of the discus better than around the more blunt edge.
Only four minutes after lifting off the powerful star ship had reached space and the powerful engines accelerated her towards relativistic speeds.
Her captain smiled.
"Bring her to FTL."
