The real surprise in the area came forth when a space mission in the early 80's detected a ship coming into orbit around the planet. At first, concern had been that it was an attacker, but closer investigation proved that wrong. Contact protocols had already been established before hand, so when the ship sent back a peaceful reply, it was met with great enthusiasm. Apparently, the signals from the planet had drawn them there in the hopes of some sort of welcoming contact, which those in charge were carefully hopeful about giving.
And then they got another surprise. Humanity's second contact with an extraterrestrial race came in the feminine forms... again. The fact that these were not tentacled horrors, slavering beasts, or cold killers helped them immensely. After all, this batch of aliens were as attractive as the last. Some had the look of young girls, while others had cleaveage that seemed to defy gravity, just like the Tribals.
However, they were all fembots, or gynoids. Each of them was a technologically advanced machine who had been built, not born. One just had to look at some of them to see the bits and pieces that identified them as not being an organic being. That did lead to some problems, but those were easily overcome once it was clear that a great many of them were sentient beings. They had their own minds and wills, and were only separated from organic beings by construction. Sure, one might know that the little girl in front of him was a machine, but for many people, it wasn't easy to contemplate that when she would give one an emotionally bright smile.
They had been built though, as apparently their 'Creators' had made them to fulfill purposes in their society. Many of them had been created with specific abilities to be of greater help in those positions, but in that they were divided. A number of 'lines' were mainly machines, able to act as servants, receptionists or other basic tasks, but self direction was not something that they were capable of. For them, guidance was neccessary. However, there were others that were completely self aware, and conscious of their ability to do the things that they wanted. And then there were the 'Thirds' who were supposed to bridge the gap between the organic and the machines.
However, the 'Creators' had done too good a job, as they had programmed self-preservation and self-decision into their gynoids. When they had been directed into putting themselves into certain destruction for very little, they had decided that survival was more important. Living had been more important than dying for a meaningless, and utterly futile, cause. And they had taken ships out to find a place where they could live in peace and in one piece.
They found that place on Earth. Though there were detractors who considered the fembots to be 'just another piece of hardware', most were welcoming enough. With a previous precedent for such things coming along, the newcomers integrated as best they could, though there were some differences. Scientists worked from their designs and created computers and artifical intelligences light years ahead of what they'd once had. Robotics took a giant leap forwards, and there was only a matter of time before basic models of Earth designed gynoids were to be created. None of them were as advanced as the originals, but it was a move in that direction. And since the gynoids were machines themselves, they were perfectly able to deal with their creation, and even actively helped in that arena as well as in other technological fields.
This was something that Genma and Ranma Saotome were around to see, as they arrived at about the same time, while:
