The room was a slaughterhouse. Tortured humans hung from the walls either dead or on the edge of death, the most coherent of whom could do more than mew like a wounded kitten. Waste, vomit, entrails, and a substantial amount of blood covered every surface.
While angered by the previous display, this gross display was more than Seras could take. She gagged by reflex and covered her mouth. For a moment she was glad she had cut down on her futile attempts to gain nutrition from human food. While she occasionally still did so because she liked to eat, she was glad she was not looking upon this display on a full stomach. She would have puked.
Kain on the other hand sneered. For a moment his eyes looked Seras but if he had any disdain for her reaction, he showed no sign of it. In a spiteful, even disgusted voice he stated, "The cretin squanders life and leaves it seeping on the floor. Such waste is a travesty. Perhaps Nupraptor needs to be taught a lesson as to the value of blood…" Seras slowly glanced over to Kain, and slowly nodded, "This is… unforgivable. He needs to be stopped before he kills anyone else…"
Kain nodded, "Yes. It is ironic, these people came here to experience the sweet dreams that Nupraptor can give, but in the end they found only nightmares."
Slowly he walked to one of the live humans and smiled. In a sardonic voice he stated, "Then let the nightmares end, replaced by the sweet respite of death."
He drained the man and turned to Seras, "Do you need to feed?"
She gagged at the very though or consuming anything in the disgusting room and fled to the next chamber.
With a dark chuckle, Kain finished feeding and followed her.
The next chamber seemed to be some kind of greeting hall. In the center of the room was a large mosaic of the human brain, illuminated by ethereal energy and surrounded by arcane runs and four decorative pillars. On the opposite side of the room from the entrance was a large archway decorated to appear as if it were the mouth of a skull, its doorway blocked by bars, and off to the sides were four hallways that lead to the unknown.
Kain smirked slightly and remarked, "I have a feeling that we are getting close to our prey."
Seras nodded, still shaken. "I think he's though the blocked door."
Kain nodded, "I would concer. Now how do we get through…"
Seras pointed to the hallways. "There are doors with switches. I was waiting for you before I did anything… I don't think it would be a good idea for us to get too separated"
Kain nodded, "I agree. We are far more deadly as a pair than alone."
Seras nodded and started towards the door. "Lets try the lower right first…"
Kain followed, brooking no argument.
They walked down the short hall and pressed the button mounted on the wall. Together they entered the door. The room was dark and reeked of death. On the floor before them was a mosaic of a undead creature. On the other side of the room was a door though which lay a red panel inscribed with runes.
Seras stepped forward. "What is that?"
"A teleportation panel," Kain replied, "It will magically transport us to another location, most likely inside the Retreat."
Seras nodded and the two entered the room. Almost immediately zombies began to stumble into view, appearing as if from nowhere.
"In the name of god, unclean souls of the living dead shall be banished into eternal damnation. Amen."
The Hellsing prayer said, Seras scowled and readied her pike into a rough combat stance, while Kain kept walking.
"What the bloody hell are you doing?"
Kain glanced back and laughed, "What we want is on the other side of this portal. Kill these zombies if you wish, but I really don't see much of a point. You cannot even feed from the corpses."
Seras sighed and began to follow, knocking a zombie out of her path with the pike. Together the pair stepped onto the portal and were transported to the great hall.
"Well, that accomplished nothing," Kain remarked. "Maybe I should choose which path we take."
"Suit yourself."
Kain walked to the upper right and opened the door. "We take this path."
Seras shrugged and followed. The two entered the room. It was a simple, almost barren in its simplicity All it had was a single painted mounted onto the wall and a closed door without a handle.
Kain smiled and ran his hand over the painting. With a click, the door opened, and before them was another teleporter.
"How did you know?" Seras asked.
"It was the only option," Kain replied.
Seras nodded, and once again they stepped onto the teleporter.
This time theyt were transported to a vast dark room. Togeather they stood in a large darkened room, on a mosaic. Across the vast room they saw a second mosaic illuminated by magical means.
They looked at each other, looked at the mosaic in the distance and began to walk into the darkness, only to be teleported back to percicely where they had started.
"Well," Seras though, "That’s not going to work…"
Kain nodded, and glanced back. He smiled. There seemed to be a short path of light leading away from the mosaic.
"Perhalps…"
Kain began to follow the path. When he reached the end, a new segment illuminated its self.
"Come Seras, I have found the way…"
the vampire girl followed as rewursted and after afew minutes of walking down the twisting path of light, they reached the second mosaic, and another teleportation portal.
They looked at one another, looked at the portal, stepped on it, and were immediately teleported back to the room from whence they came.
Seras sighed and glanced back to Kain. "Bottom Left?"
"Why not…"
Following the pattern as before they entered the room. Before them stretched a field of spikes, on the otherside of which was a teleportation portal.
"You've got to be bloody kidding me…" Seras grumbled.
"It this foolishness is some form of test," Kain growled, "Then all Nupraptor has done is test my patience"
"Mine too," Seras replied tiredly, "Now how are we going to get past this…"
She smiled and looked at a large handle sticking out at the side of the room.
"Maybe…"
She walked over, pushed the handle, and the spikes began to pull into the floor and then re-extend in a set patern.
"I guess we have to walk according to the pattern…"
"I can see that," Kain replied and the two walked to the portal, very carefully making sure that neither of them got skewered.
As before they were teleported to the first room.
They looked at each other looked at the other door, and entered.
On the other side was an art gallery… that was infested by Zombies. Without a word said they walked through, unlocking any sealed doors, picking up a hand full of artifacts, as well as butchering several zombies until they came upon another teleportation portal.
They stepped on it and once again they were back to the starting point.
"You've got to be kidding me…" Kain sneered.
Seras smiled, and pointed behind him.
"Door's open."
Kain looked over, laughed, and they left.
